As previously mentioned, staff and students worked together last year to identify the undesirable behaviours observed in classroom and non-classroom settings and determined what the expected or preferred behaviours should be.

The SWPBS team used this information to create our Matrices of Expected Behaviours which helps the school community establish a common language and identify universal goals for behaviour.

Matrices of expected behaviours for different settings and activities are being taught and displayed around the school. A focus for Semester 1 has been on Assembly and Transitions. The next matrix which we will focus on will explore how we show our values Online. This coincides with the Cyber Safety Project Incursion that took place on Wednesday for our students from Year 3-6.

Peacemakers

Our Peacemaker Program was relaunched last year and has had a positive impact on our students.

Who are Peacemakers and what do they do?

Students from Year 4-6 are Peacemakers.

Peacemakers assist students solve minor issues/problems in the yard by:

  • helping them sort things out when there is a disagreement
  • helping them understand the needs and feelings of others
  • helping them solve problems and find solutions
  • helping them find something to do or someone to play with
  • helping them calm down when they are dysregulated

We had to recruit new Peacemakers this year, as our 2024 Year 6 Peacemakers have moved onto Secondary School.

We received a great deal of interest and once the new recruits were selected, they participated in a training session that equipped them with the knowledge and skills needed to take on their new role. A big thank you to Mrs Oosthuizen for supporting this process, creating the roster and providing our students with vests and clipboards.

The SWPBS/Wellbeing Team is currently gathering data on playground behaviour to better address the needs of our students. Having the Peacemakers support this process will be beneficial. Below are photos of our students taking part in role plays during the training session.
