Principal's Report

Welcome to our final newsletter of Term 2. In this edition, I will touch on both some highlights of this term, as well events we are looking forward to next term.
Last week all families received student progress reports, reflecting on achievements in Semester One. I hope you were able to take the time to read these carefully and discuss them with your child/ren. Students also prepared an end of semester reflection, highlighting their learning and wellbeing achievements, as well as setting goals for Semester Two. This is an important document that highlights student voice in our reporting process.
Our next opportunity for formal learning and wellbeing feedback will occur in Week 8 of Term 3, where families will be invited to participate in parent-teacher interviews. We look forward to sharing that further opportunity with you.
I would like to extend an enormous thank you to our Parents’ Association, who have concluded a wonderful semester of events for our students and families. These events both raise critical funds for our school, as well as building a strong sense of community amongst our families.
Much of the funds raised will begin to be outlaid on projects that will commence over the school holidays, as well as early in Term 3. Modifications and upgrades to Year 3 and 4 classes on the second storey of our traditional building will begin over the break, whilst the senior playground will be cordoned-off ready for the installation of our new playground and ‘gaga pit’. We hope that our junior school families have noticed the suite of new reading books that have come home, with thanks to our ‘cakes for a cause’ initiative, ensuring these books align with our phonics-based approach to literacy.
Our major fundraiser for Term 3 is the ‘CSPS 90’s Trivia Night’, booked for Saturday 9th August from 7:30pm at the Murrumbeena Park Function Room. With a huge thanks to the organising team, led by Stephanie Esakoff, this is a can’t-miss event for all our families. As a child of the 90’s, I cannot wait to see the outfits and hear some of the music that I listened to on my discman (remember those?!) back then!
Our annual school concert will also take place next term, with students performing at Robert Blackwood Hall (Monash University, Clayton Campus), on Tuesday 2nd September. Our new Music and Performing Arts teacher, Emma Walsh, has done an amazing job to conceptualise the concert and begin to teach new songs and dance moves to all of our students (on top of getting our choir and orchestra together!). The concert is a huge highlight for our community, and I cannot wait to see the show in its entirety!
As I sign-off for the term, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their support across the first half of the year. Our great school continues to become even better, and I am proud to be a member of this wonderful community.
I hope everyone has a safe, happy and restful school holiday period. Thank you for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.
Rohan.
