A Focus on French

Bonjour!
Here is a summary of term two learning and activities in the French classroom so far.
Foundation students counted to 10 in French. They are currently learning a French counting rhyme called “ma main”. They are also learning about greetings, asking each other “comment ça va?" (how are you?) and answering with four different answers.
Year 1 students practised numbers up to 20! They learned a counting rhyme called “un, deux, trois”. They revised and expanded their knowledge around greetings. They are currently practising how to ask and tell where they live (their suburb, or Melbourne if unsure!)
Year 2 students learned to count to 20. They looked at how French numbers are spelt in French. They revised the names of a few stationery items and practised how to ask for those items in French, for example: Can I please have an eraser? Students even had a go at writing their own sentence! They are currently learning the names of some pets.
Year 3 students finished their own poster of an imaginary character introducing themself in French. They revised simple greetings and learned about formal and informal greetings in French. They practised mini dialogues in pairs. They have just started learning the names of some pets.
Year 4 students practised numbers up to 50. They learned the name of continents in French and located them on a map. They also learned the names of some wild animals. They are currently observing their grammatical gender, by noticing if the word “the” in French is translated by “le” masculine grammatical gender, or “la”, feminine grammatical gender.
Year 5 students revised numbers to 50. They learned the name of continents in French. They also learned the names of some wild animals. They are currently having a go at writing their own short sentences combining continents and animals, by stating where the animals live.
Year 6 students finished their comic strips using questions and answers about personal information. They learned some vocabulary around the house. They practised naming different rooms, furniture and items from each room. Students wrote modelled sentences describing in which room various types of furniture can be found. They are currently working on “my ideal house” project.
