Sport report Term 2 2025

Term 2 went off with a bang. It was busy from the day the students returned this term. We had two carnivals and multiple knockout sport competitions happening this term that made it jam packed and full of excitement.
Cross country
On the first Friday we held our annual Cross country carnival. The weather was kind to us and allowed us to have a spectacular day with student attendance being one of the highest in a while. It was run slightly different this year, with all students participating in the carnival whether they ran it competitively or socialised on their walk with their friends. It was the perfect day to be out being active and embracing the sunshine that we were lucky to have.
TRED had then sent 42 students to represent at the Macarthur zone cross country carnival. The day was freezing cold but was amazing to see so many students representing not only TRED but themselves against the zone. We had four runners who were then successful to represent TRED and Macarthur Zone the SSW Championships. Congratulations to Paris Charlton-Matthews finishing 5th in the 12 years, Skye Ludas-Morrison finishing 6th in the 13 years, Lucas Peacock finishing 5th in the 13 years and Lukas Susnja finishing 2nd in the 14 years.
Skye and Paris competed at the SSW in competitive age groups and should be extremely proud of their efforts in the tough competition. Unfortunately, Paris had missed out of progressing further with placing 16th out of 51 athletes. A massive congratulations to Skye who was successful in finishing 9th out of 53 athletes and will be competing at the CHS All Schools Championships early next term. We all wish Skye the best of luck and we are proud of what she has achieved no matter where she finishes.
Athletics
It was a short turn around, but we held our Athletics carnival the Monday of Week 2. What a massive turn around backing up from cross country on the Friday, but the students and staff showed up for what was one of our best Athletics carnivals.
We returned to Campbelltown Athletics track this year and were one of the first schools to use the new track after the development works had taken place. The sun was shining (eventually) which allowed for an amazing atmosphere and the highest level of competition I have seen since being at TRED.
It was so nice to see how many students put themselves out there and competed in at least one event throughout the day. Just shows the team spirit we have developed in our school community around making the most out of any situation.
On this day, we had many records broken which was amazing! The level of competitiveness to achieve better and for their names to be printed in the record books for another year was one of the driving forces. A special mention to Cerenity Lousick of Year 10 who broke a total of 5 records this year. We are looking forward to seeing more records being broken next year!
Our zone carnival is the last week of this term, and we have a massive 92 students potentially representing us which allows TRED to truly demonstrate their athletic ability at the competition.
Tuesday sport
This term we have been unlucky in some weeks with the weather which has prevented us from running our normal competitions and schedules. Due to some whole school events happening, we have had to hold our finals in Week 8 this term.
We were lucky enough for Stage 4 Ball sports to have three coaches from ‘Karzon Sportz’ come out and run sessions with the group. They provided three options each week for the students to choose from including touch football, oztag, dodgeball, basketball and European handball. We had great participation each week from all the students and the coaches had commended them on their positive attitude and engagement. This was pleasing to hear as our students tried their hardest each week to improve in the sport chosen for that week.
Congratulations to the following teams who won their competitions for sport:
Stage 4 | Stage 5 |
Basketball - Izaiah Brewer-Al-Kalani, Lebron Siao, Kumayl Hassan, Brody Coffin-Adams, Vinh Tran and Mohammad Chowdhury | Flag Footy – Bardia, Miguel, Rhys, Felix, Caleb, Denzel, Jacob, Zech |
Mix Touch – Isla Howlett, Kahla Tavae, Penelope Kunaiti-Ungounga, Casey Neave, Logan Sekoa, Denzell-Daniel Chesterfield, Brax Grevett and Kadyn Nong | Netball - Issachar, Alisa, Amelia, Charlotte, Maali, Selena and Alosina |
I encourage students to choose a different sport that they would not usually play to challenge themselves in their skill and development. Remember, sport is meant to be fun and engaging and you only get what you put in.
A reminder to all students that each week in competitive sports, teachers will be awarding MVP points to 3 students who deserve the nominations. These points are collated over the term and will be recognised at the end of the year for their achievement.
Knockout sports
This term has been extremely busy for knockout sports with many teams competing. It is so great to see students trying out for our school teams to compete against the zone. We have had some great results with some teams progressing through to the next stage.
Mixed opens Tennis
In this competition students play as individuals and as doubles. They accumulate points based on their results as a team to determine where they place overall. Our boys’ team had a tough draw with competition that played outside of school and unfortunately lost all their games. The girls however, played exceptionally well and were successful in winning the overall day. This is the first time that TRED has been crowned the Macarthur zone winners in Tennis. We wish the girls all the best in the coming week when they compete at the SSW Championships. Thank you, Mrs Jones, for taking the team and congratulations on the results achieved.
Opens University Shield Rugby League
Our school hosted this knockout competition for the first time this year. Unfortunately, we had a couple of schools in our zone pull out of competition the day before which allowed for more preparation on the day. We had versed Elizabeth Macarthur on the day, which was going to be a tough game, but we still showed up and played our best on the day. Unfortunately, we went down to Elizabeth Macarthur, but it was an achievement to have a team for this competition. Thank you to Mr Mackie and Cameron for taking the team.
Opens Boys’ & Girls’ Touch Football
– this year we had a mixed range of students in the touch teams. It was the largest trials we have had in some time which made the decision harder when the teams needed to be reduced. It is a much faster game than what our students are used and really challenges them on their ability and fitness levels. Although we were not successful in progressing further, both teams showed pride and school spirit in every game they had played. Thanks to Mr Lugg and Mrs Adamson for taking the teams.
Opens Volleyball
What a jam-packed day this was! It is a very competitive competition held within our zone and the level of skill is increasing each year. A special thank you to Mrs Skeggs and Mrs Jones for taking the teams so Mrs Adamson could run the day with the help of Alicia, Manni, Summa and Brodie. Throughout the day, we had played 5 games and finals. Both teams were undefeated all day, which was an indication of their hard work and team work they put into each of the games. TRED were in the finals and had to face off against Oran Park High School for both boys and girls. The girls played so well and went down in the third set by 2 points. It was heart breaking but they will be back bigger and stronger next year. The boys again, came away with being zone champions for the second year in a row.
The boys then represented TRED and the Macarthur zone at the SSW Championships the following week. The level of competition this year was of a high standard which resulted in highly competitive games that were hard and required strong teamwork and communication to push us through. We had improved on last year’s placings with finishing 4th this year. The top three teams all play SVL outside of school and have more experience playing together as a team. We are so proud of the achievements and results the boys had attained this year. Well done.
Buckley shield – our zone is a very strong rugby league community with lots of quality teams that play together or against each other on the weekends. The boys played 6 games which made it a jam-packed day for them. They had been training with Cameron most days each week leading up to the knockout day. Although, the boys were unsuccessful in winning a game, they played well. A massive thank you to Cameron for helping the boys with training and on the game. We appreciate your dedication to the sport.
Open’s Netball
What a day for our girl’s netball team. This year was their best result so far and shows how eager they were to doing well on the day. The girls showed our TRED spirit throughout the day, and many comments were made from the other schools at how much stronger this team was. Even though, we didn’t get all the results we would have liked, the girls won a game and came very close in others with such tough competition. Well done to Alosina for being our umpire in hard matches and a massive thank you to Ms McCarthy for taking the team this year.

Year 7 & 8 Wanderers Fives Schools Cup
On Wednesday 11th June, selected Year 7 & 8 students had the exciting opportunity to compete in the Five-a-side Schools Cup (Macarthur/Nepean Regional tournament) held at the brand-new Wanderers Fives facility – the newest and most advanced five-a-side football venue in the country, featuring nine state-of-the-art, all weather synthetic pitches. While neither the girls’ nor boys’ teams progressed to the finals, all students represented the school with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you to Miss Newton, Mr Pillay and Mr McLeod for making this happen for our students and providing opportunities for them to participate in different competitions.
Miss Newton and Mr Pillay look forward to taking the Year 9 & 10 girls’ and boys’ futsal teams out next term to compete in their division on Wednesday 13th August.
