NASCA Report

PRIMARY SCHOOL COLLABORATION:

In the spirit of learning, culture, and leadership, NASCA students have been proudly working alongside students from Ambarvale Public School and Thomas Acres Public School in the lead-up to our NAIDOC celebrations. Guided by Josh Sly, students have come together to explore traditional song and dance, creating powerful connections through movement and music.

As part of the cultural learning journey, students also engaged in ochre art workshops, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal practices and storytelling through visual art.

What’s been especially inspiring is seeing NASCA students rise into leadership roles and mentoring the younger students, sharing their knowledge and helping build confidence and pride in culture across all three schools. Their efforts are shaping a strong and inclusive celebration of NAIDOC, and we look forward to sharing the results of this meaningful collaboration with our communities.

CAREERFIT:

Five of our enthusiastic Nasca students in year 10, 11 & 12 recently had the awesome opportunity to attend NASCA’s Career Fit Camp held in the City

Over three exciting days, the students took part in workshops with some of Nasca's Corporate partners and Australia’s top companies, including Nestlé, Qube, DLA Piper, Cummins and more. These sessions gave the students a great look into different career paths and a chance to ask questions, get hands on and learn from real professionals.

But it wasn’t all serious business! After the workshops, it was time to relax and have some fun. The students hit the arcade and played laser tag, had an epic in-house games night full of laughs, and even got to watch the Bulldogs take on the Dolphins at the NRL (some even getting photos with a few of the players and cheerleaders). The whole experience was packed with energy, learning, and heaps of good vibes. Our students came back inspired, more confident, and with some unforgettable memories.

ARTUCATION:

Over the past eight weeks, our NASCA students have been enjoying a fun and engaging workshop run by Youth Solutions as part of their ARTucation program. Held every fortnight, these sessions created a safe and creative space for students to learn about drug and alcohol safety in an engaging, hands on way.

From wearing beer goggles while trying to pick up objects to having safe and open conversations about the effects of drugs and alcohol, the workshops were full of valuable learning and plenty of laughs. Students also learned about the many support services available to them, including important hotlines and contacts they can reach out to if they ever need help or someone to talk to.

To wrap up the program, students got creative by making their own Waratah flowers out of clay. The Waratah, a strong and beautiful native flower, was chosen to represent the resilience and strength each student has shown throughout the journey.

The clay flowers are now drying and will be fired in the kiln soon. Once they’re ready, students will be able to take their Waratahs home as a special reminder of what they’ve learned and created together.
