Reflecting on Term 2

Dear Thomas Reddall High School Community,

As we wrap up Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made and the exciting developments ahead for our students and staff. This term has been marked by a strong focus on High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), a commitment that aligns with our ongoing mission to foster an environment where every student can thrive.

We kicked off this initiative with a dedicated staff development day led by our talented Ms. McGarry. Her insightful sessions were designed to deepen our teachers' understanding of identifying high potential students, providing the necessary support, and encouraging their growth. The collaborative spirit of our staff was evident, as they engaged in meaningful discussions and shared best practices that will enhance our teaching strategies.

The outcome of this professional learning will be significant. As a result of our collaboration and commitment to HPGE, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a cross KLA project next year. This project aims to integrate various subjects, allowing students to explore their interests and talents in a dynamic and supportive environment. We believe that by providing these opportunities, we can nurture the unique abilities of each student and inspire a lifelong love of learning.

In addition to our academic achievements, we have also seen outstanding success on the sporting field this term. Our athletics and cross country carnivals were organised superbly by Ms. Adamson, showcasing remarkable student participation and enthusiasm. It was a joy to witness our students' dedication and sportsmanship throughout these events. A special highlight was our inaugural teacher inflatable race, which brought laughter and camaraderie to our school community. Congratulations to our winner, 'PIG' (Mr. Mapstone), for taking out the title in a truly hilarious competition!

Our school is equally committed to fostering social and emotional learning and enhancing student wellbeing. We encourage positive attendance, reward positive behaviour, and engage students in various supportive programs, including RAGE, Managing the Bull, Self-Care Programs, Street University with Thane,  JellyBean  our beloved TheraPuppy and Big Yellow Umbrella. Acknowledging the hard work of our Wellbeing and Learning Support Team, led by the dedicated Ms. Hutchinson, we are thrilled to have opened our Engagement Hub in what was previously the old library. This dedicated student space is designed for programs, collaboration, regulation, and support. The Hub is also open every recess and lunch as an alternative to the playground, offering games, clubs, books, and computers for students to enjoy.

We are also committed to fostering a harmonious culture within our school community, where all cultures are learned about, valued, and respected. Our Reconciliation Week learning activities were thoughtfully run for all students to deepen their understanding of reconciliation and respect. The assembly, meticulously organised by Mrs. Bullock, showcased beautiful performances of dance and culture, highlighting the diversity within our school. Looking ahead to Term 3, we are excited to host NAIDOC celebrations and T-RED Day, which will be a fantastic showcase of our school’s multiculturalism. We sincerely appreciate the support of our parents and the wider community for these events, and we are proud of our performers who take great pride in sharing their cultures.

Thomas Reddall High School is future-focused, and we are committed to preparing our students for their next steps. As part of this commitment, we will be hosting our upcoming Term 3 Subject Selection Night, where students and parents can explore the courses available for the following year. Prior to this evening, Year 10 students will participate in interviews with our Transition Team to discuss pathways, career options, university entrance requirements, and the associated supports available to them. Mr. Melluish, our dedicated Careers Adviser, continually provides valuable career opportunities, including Start Your Future TAFE programs, work experience placements, and CV writing assistance. I encourage all students to access support from Mrs. Skeggs (HT), Mr. Melluish (Careers Adviser), and Ms. Johnson (LST) in the Learning Centre as they navigate their options and make informed decisions for their futures.

In line with our commitment to environmental upgrades and providing our students with the necessary resources and equipment, this term we have made significant investments in our facilities. We are excited to announce the purchase of two new school buses, including a brand new 12-seater and a 28-seater, which will help minimise the cost of excursions and sporting opportunities for our students. Additionally, we have transformed the library into a new Wellbeing Hub, outfitted with purpose-built furniture and equipment to better support our students' needs. Over the holidays, we will be installing four new smart boards and projectors to enhance learning experiences. Furthermore, we have tendered for the installation of new synthetic turf volleyball courts and air conditioning for the school hall, aiming for completion by the end of the year.

As we move into the next term, I encourage all students to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Let us continue to support one another in our pursuit of excellence and make the most of our educational journey together.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable break.
