📝 Semester 1 Student Reports, coming home soon!
We are pleased to let you know that Semester 1 reports will be available shortly. These reports provide valuable insight into your child’s academic progress, learning behaviours, and engagement with the curriculum.
This semester, you will notice some important updates to how student achievement is communicated, particularly in Mathematics. As part of Victoria’s transition to the new Mathematics Curriculum 2.0, teachers now report student learning under a single overall achievement standard instead of the three previous strands. You will see an achievement rating for mathematics on this report, with progress indicators to follow in future cycles.
Â
The report will include:
- Teacher comments focusing on your child’s learning behaviours and overall progress
- Curriculum overviews for English, Mathematics, Knowledge Rich learning (including History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics), and our specialist subjects
- A learning continuum, helping you see your child’s progress and areas for growth
At Lysterfield Primary School, we believe that academic success is connected to strong learning behaviours, like persistence and accepting challenges, which are outlined in our Learner Profile. These behaviours help students become more independent learners who can apply their knowledge meaningfully.
💬 Reading the report with your child
We encourage you to read your child’s report with them. This shared conversation helps build a positive mindset around learning and growth. Here are a few suggestions to guide that discussion:
- Start with strengths: Ask your child what they’re most proud of in their report. Celebrate these wins, big or small.
- Focus on effort, not just results: Learning behaviours are just as important as academic achievement. Acknowledge persistence, effort and growth.
- Ask open-ended questions: “What do you think helped you succeed in this area?” or “What would you like to improve next term?”
- Make space for reflection: Reports are not the final word; they're part of an ongoing learning journey. Encourage your child to set goals and identify areas for future growth.
- Be kind and constructive: If your child feels disappointed, remind them that learning involves challenges and growth takes time.
 What’s Next?
In Term 3, we will hold Student Led Conferences, where students will share their learning and progress with you directly. This is a powerful way for students to reflect, take ownership of their learning, and set future goals. More details will be shared soon.
As always, if you have any questions about your child’s report or progress, please reach out to your child’s teacher. We are proud of the learning that has taken place across Semester 1 and look forward to supporting all our students in the semester ahead.
Thank you for being our partners in learning.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm and dry! I’ll be clocking hours as Mum-Uber, chauffeuring my kids from one activity to the next, no tips, just snacks and attitude.
