ADF Visit
The Australian Defence Force visited our school last week and ran some excellent sessions. They helped out with some physical testing, and commented on the level of fitness that our students displayed (some of the best they have seen). A couple of our students have written about the incursion, which I've included here.
Student perspective: ADF Careers was an experience I will not forget anytime soon. We went through the benefits of the Army. They talked about their experiences in the Army. They also talked about the free university and TAFE courses available. Later in the day, we did fitness testing with them. We did the sit up test, the push-up test and the beep test, and the ADF Careers people told us the fitness requirements to join each arm of the Defence Force.
Student perspective: During the ADF Careers visit, we were informed of the key benefits of taking on a future career within the Army. We also participated in a fitness session to have a full understanding of the level of fitness and strength we would be required to achieve to be accepted into each arm of Defence Force. We were tested by completing three exercises including the beep test, push ups and sit ups and attempting to reach the minimum requirements. Overall, it was a beneficial experience which opened-up many different opportunities and career paths for students.
Decorative and Functional
Students in the Decorative and Functional elective created ceramic bathroom sets inspired by the theme of Australiana. Each student constructed a toothbrush holder, soap dish and a cup. All three items needed to link with the theme. Australiana: things that are uniquely Australian, encompassing culture, history, and natural features, often with a strong emphasis on iconic symbols and designs. In the images below you will see a vegemite jar and toast, an iced vovo, snakes, a thong and a sand castle.
Cooking Classics
Now that students are nearing the end of this Semester-long subject, they were able to choose what they wanted to cook. Items ranged from muffins, and pizza to wraps and yummy slices.
Woodwork Extension
Students have worked hard throughout the semester to complete a range of projects. Pictured here is Riley, taking home his finished major project.
