Snowsports are an important part of most student’s time at Mount Beauty Secondary College, with a strong tradition of excellence and participation. Our winter sports program is one of the most popular offerings at the school, combining recreational fun with competitive opportunities in both downhill and cross country skiing.
We’re proud to share that eight former students have gone on to compete at the Olympic level in cross country and alpine skiing!
Our downhill program runs for five full days at Falls Creek during Term 3, alternating between Mondays and Wednesdays. Students can choose to ski or snowboard and are encouraged to maintain one discipline for maximum skill development and enjoyment.
Each day includes a lesson from the Falls Creek Snowsp School, thank you to their team for their ongoing support.
For those who love the outdoors and want to build fitness while exploring the Alps, our cross country program is a perfect fit. It runs during Sport periods to minimise disruption to academic classes, with sessions for students in Years 7-10.
Students can use classic skis and are encouraged to participate in events like the Joey Hoppet and the ASSSTC.
Australian Secondary Schools Snowsports Team Championship (ASSSTC)
Since 1967, the ASSSTC has offered students a unique team-based competition across Alpine, Cross Country, and Snowboard disciplines. Unlike other ski events, there are no individual winners, every participant contributes to the team’s overall score.
Teams of up to 16 students compete, with most members participating in multiple disciplines. This inclusive format encourages broad participation and fosters team spirit. This year we will have students stay on mountain to build the atmosphere of the team. We wish them well in week 2 and encourage other students to nominate for this opportunity in future years.
