Laptop OHS Concern

Charging Laptops during class.

Unfortunately, there have recently been some eduSafe reports made about near misses and trip hazards due to charging cords in classrooms. We have also had more electrical concerns recently, where circuits are being overloaded.

As such, starting from Term 3, we will be enforcing that students do not charge laptops during class time.

This is a big OHS issue that we need to manage, as the students’ personal charging cords are not checked for safety and electrical compliance, and they create trip hazards. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but hope students take on the responsibility to charge their laptops at home. If students are finding that they are doing the right thing, but their batteries are not lasting, we do have school laptops that can be used by these students. Please fill in an Allocated Laptop form to enable this to happen. These forms are available at school.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is observed in early July each year; running from the first Sunday in July to the following Saturday. Disappointingly, this time generally ends up coinciding with the Term 2 holidays. NAIDOC week will be celebrated between the 6th and 13th of July. The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations is “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”. This theme is to celebrate the achievements of the past and the bright future ahead, built on the ‘strength of young leaders, vision of community and the legacy of ancestors.’ This year marks the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, which honours, supports and promotes Indigenous voices, culture and resilience.

End of Semester 1

Term 2 officially finishes for students at 2.30pm next Friday, 4th July. Being the end of semester, there will be a change of Middle School elective subjects at the start of Term 3. Students will be provided a new timetable at the start of the term and the new classes may be found in Compass just before school returns.

The end of the semester also means that any subjects that are not core will be finishing. As such, the Semester 1 Reports will be made available to families in Compass from 4pm on Friday 4th July, the last day of school. Please make sure you download and save or print a copy for your records. Also take the time to discuss the reports with your child. All comments must include a comment about improvement and while that subject may be finishing, the improvement suggestion will generally be one that can be used in any subject. If you or your child have any questions that come out of this reporting cycle, please don’t hesitate to contact (email is best) the Student Engagement Leaders or the teacher directly. Due to the holiday period, they may not get back to you straight away, but will respond when they return to work.

Cross Country Ski Hire

Are you interested in cross country skiing? We will be hiring cross country skis, boots and poles from our Nordic Ski Room to local families (local school students and their family) for the holidays.

Holiday hire: $50 per set.

The Ski Room (bus end of the school) will be open from 2.30pm – 4.30pm on Friday 4th July. Payments can be made by cash or card.

Skis are to be returned before 9am on Tuesday 22nd July.
