How We Organise Ourselves: State Brochure Showcase!
In our current Unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves, students have been exploring how 'Patterns are reflected in the distribution of populations'.
One exciting part of this unit has been creating state brochures - a fun and creative way to inquire into how different parts of Australia are organised.
Each student chose an Australian state or territory to research, asking big questions like:
What is the location and population of the state?
What are its key features (landmarks, flora and fauna, geography).
What is the climate?
Students took on the role of researchers, using both digital and print sources to find accurate, interesting facts. They carefully organised their information into well-structured infographics, with snappy subheadings to entice their audience such as Mesmerising Landmarks, Fabulous Fauna and Astonishing Animals. Students learnt how to present information clearly using creative headings and subheadings, captions, and purposeful design.
We also discussed how organisation goes beyond just layout - it’s about how information, images, and even colour choices work together to communicate a message.
This inquiry has been a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their research and presentation skills while learning how to create a brochure about a neighbouring country.
