Year Two

It has been a fantastic start to Term Three as we settle back into our learning routines. Students have enthusiastically engaged in a range of rich and purposeful learning experiences.

In mathematics, our current focus is on directional language and mapping skills. Students have begun creating their own maps and describing locations using positional vocabulary. Last week, we had an exciting treasure hunt activity where students followed maps they created to find hidden treasure in the classroom. This hands-on experience helped consolidate their understanding of location and direction.

As we progress, students will explore grid coordinates, compass points, and the use of symbols and keys in map-making.

We are also incorporating Bee-Bot robots to further support our understanding of directional language, including terms such as left, right, forwards, backwards, clockwise, and anticlockwise. Programming the Bee-Bots helps students develop spatial awareness, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills - all while having fun! Students are enjoying the challenge of planning, testing, and refining their instructions in collaborative and engaging ways.
