Dear Parents & Parishioners,

OHR Public Speaking Final

Once again, there was a feeling of anticipation and excitement as the school community was joined by parents and other family members, on Monday afternoon, to witness the 2025 OHR Public Speaking Final. The hall was filled with an air of expectancy, and the finalists did not disappoint; they captivated the gathered audience.

We are grateful to Ann Rennie who accepted our invitation to act as guest judge.  Anne is a past parent of OHR and a former teacher of English at Genazzano College.  We always value Anne's time, expertise and passion for public speaking.

Thank you to Mrs Canty, our Literacy Leader, who organised all facets of this year's Public Speaking Season.  And finally, congratulations to every OHR student who prepared a speech this year and took the brave opportunity to deliver it before an audience of their peers.   Every student deserves to take a bow!

“Words do two major things: they provide food for the mind and create light for understanding and awareness.”

Jim Rohn.

Our teachers and parents also deserve to be acknowledged for the way they went about scaffolding and encouraging each student    As the saying goes, "It takes a village ...."

Go to the Learning & Teaching News for a report from Mrs Canty.

First Eucharist

Last weekend marked the beginning of our First Eucharist celebrations. This weekend, our remaining students will receive the Euchaist for the first time on either Saturday evening (5.30pm at OLGC) or Sunday morning (10.30am at OHR). The students, supported by their peers, have been prepared by their teachers and members of the parish team for this significant sacrament of initiation.

You see EUCHARIST in another's eyes,

give it in another's hand held tight,

squeeze it in an embrace.

You pause EUCHARIST in the middle of a busy day,

speak it in another's ear,

listen to it from a person who wants to talk.

For EUCHARIST is as simple as being on time

and as profound as sympathy

I give you my supper, I give you my sustenance,

I give you my life, I give you me,

I give you EUCHARIST

R. Voight

We ask you, Lord, to bless all our students as they prepare to receive the Eucharist for the first time this weekend.

Please refer to the Education in Faith page for the names of the children who will celebrate the sarament this Saturday evening.

New Synthetic Turf

Over the forthcoming school holidays, works will take place on the synthetic turf at the Northern end of the school property. Essentially, the turf adjacent to the sandpit and ultimately extending to the rear of the property will be removed.  The base will be repaired with overlay, three drainage pits will be installed, the ground will be laser graded, and new synthetic turf with linemarkings will be reinstated.

The entire project is forecast to be completed within the two week holiday break, but we have allowed an additional week should the weather not be favourable.

Parent Access- Student Reports

At the beginning of this week, Mrs Penny Hansen advised that the Semester 1 reports will be available from this Monday 30 June. If you haven't already, it is important that you download the "nForma for Parents App" in order to access the reports when they are available.

For those new to OHR, nForma uses an app which is available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.  All reports, previous and future, will be available to be viewed on the "nForma For Parents" app. It is a good idea to download it and get logged in, so you are familiar with it when the reports for June are accessible in the coming days.

Below are the instructions on how to download the app, sign in and get started.

If you have any questions please email Mrs Penny Hansen: phansen@ohrsurreyhills.catholic.edu.au
