Work Experience

Senior School - Year 10

We want to take a moment to celebrate the fantastic efforts of our Year 10 students during Work Experience this year. It's been a pleasure hearing from students about their placements. From building sites to veterinary clinics, primary schools to retail, students embraced the opportunity to step into the world of work with energy and curiosity.

"So on the first day, I arrived at 8 am and got right into it and started watching Andy, the man I was with, and we had to service the beetle in the video, and I got to take the bolt out that keeps the oil in the engine bay. The second day was more similar, and I got to go on a road test to see what was wrong with the car. The third day was more exciting because I started doing more things on my own, like changing the oil and checking that the tyres are okay. Still, the fourth day was fun because we got to work on an old Volkswagen van. On the fifth day, I was able to do a service all on my own (Andy was there looking over and making saw that I did everything right.) So I'm very grateful to the men at JL Prestige Automotive thank you"

What has truly stood out is the incredible feedback we've received from employers. Across a wide range of industries, our students have been praised for their positive attitudes, willingness to learn, and respectful conduct. We are so proud of the way they represented both themselves and the College out in the community.

Here are some of the glowing remarks we received:

Kate J. (Back in Motion): "She is an absolute pleasure to have had over the week."

Sarah G. (Watch Me Grow): "It has been a pleasure having Sarah at the center, she has been a wonderful help and a delight to work with."

Levi K. (Eastland): "Hosting Levi has been a pleasure – a very polite young man, he was punctual, respectful and as the week progressed, we could see his confidence level grew."

Jayden L., Ellie P., Hisa V. (Wantirna South PS): "It has been a delight to have them at school, particularly to welcome Hisa and Ellie back. Jayden has been an absolute delight as well."

Hamish M. (Capital Smart): "Hamish showcased a high level of maturity and eagerness to make the most of his work experience with us. Hamish’s adaptability and comprehension allowed for a wider range of tasks to be completed than what was originally set out."

Emma M. (The Coffee House): "Emma was great. She was very good, attentive and enthusiastic in the workplace. She worked well with the team."

Abigail H. (Best and Less): "It’s a pleasure having Abigail here."

Hendrix M. (Maton Guitars): "Hendrix was an absolute pleasure to have on-site. He showed great enthusiasm, was punctual every day, and adapted well to each section he spent time in. His positive attitude and willingness to learn really stood out, and I hope he enjoyed the experience as much as we enjoyed having him."

Sandra V. (Victorian State Schools Spectacular): "Sandra was fantastic to work with and was always willing to do any task we needed done. Sandra’s work experience fell at quite a stressful time for the organisation moving back into our venue and she was incredibly helpful."

Emma M. (Smart Oz Kids): "We were delighted to have Emma join us for a week and she has successfully completed the task outlined in her handbook."

Bella L. (IGA Ritchies): "Bella has been offered a casual position with us due to her great work exhibited during work experience."

Ryder M. (The Fencing Man): "Ryder a very pleasant and commutable work experience employee. His ability to take direction from the supervisors was outstanding. He showed pride and commitment as well as ownership of any task he was asked to provide and was not afraid to ask questions or guidance in anything he did not understand. He worked well in a team and independently. We would not hesitate to employ Ryder if he chose to enter this field of work."

Charlie R. (Rowville Library): "Charlie was involved in a variety of library tasks, including shelving, processing reservations, and collection maintenance (such as processing new books and handling deletions). She also participated in library activities, including Storytime sessions and Tech Support sessions. It was a pleasure having Charlie with us, and we wish her all the best in her future studies."

Duke D. (Monash): "It was a pleasure hosting Duke. He was always enthusiastic, positive and willing to have a go. Duke was always respectful, polite and quick to action requests and complete tasks. He gave great feedback about our services and showed appreciation for the time being given to him. I think people in the office also gained from the experience of hosting Duke, they all enjoyed having Duke around the office."

Charlie R. (Emerge Gym): "Charlie was great to have as part of the team at Emerge. We would gladly have him back."

These quotes are a testament to the effort and enthusiasm our students brought to their placements. For many, it was a first taste of the workplace – and they made a lasting impression.

Thank you to all the families, employers, and staff who supported students in preparing for and completing their work experience. We look forward to building on these experiences in the years to come!
