This term in STEM, students across all year levels have been engaged in creative, hands-on learning experiences. From chemistry to digital design, they’ve been exploring real-world problems and building practical skills. Here's a snapshot of what each year level is working on and their goals for the end of term.

Prep – From LEGO to Animal Design

Prep students began the term using LEGO to communicate their design ideas. They are now learning how plants and animals provide food, clothing, and shelter. By the end of the unit, they will draw and describe a protective item for an animal, using their understanding of natural materials.

Year 1/2 – Toys and Kitchen Technologies

After designing balloon-powered cars in their unit on forces and movement, Year 1/2 students are now exploring kitchen technologies. They are learning how tools and materials are designed for safety and sustainability. Their final task is to design and explain a

kitchen gadget through drawings and labels.

Year 3/4 – Keychain Production Project

Students have been using Tinkercad to design keychains inspired by the school production, Pirates of the Curry Bean. They have explored materials, digital tools, and production lines. By term’s end, they will 3D print and assemble their keychains as finished products.

Year 5/6 – Chemistry and Cold Meals

Year 5/6 students explored solutions, suspensions, and states of matter, applying this knowledge to build and improve muddy water filters. They are now preparing to create a healthy cold meal, applying their understanding of reversible changes and demonstrating safe kitchen practices.

We’re looking forward to celebrating their creative outcomes soon!
