Assistant Principal News

Week 9 Greeting:
As we continue through these chilly winter mornings, I hope you are all keeping warm and well. The crisp air certainly makes it harder to get out of bed, but the students have shown great resilience turning up each day with bright smiles. A gentle reminder to please check the lost property cupboard, as we still have a large number of jackets, jumpers and other items that have yet to be claimed. With so many students shedding layers as the day warms up, it’s easy for things to go missing—your help in checking the lost property would be greatly appreciated.
School Review:
This week, our school participated in a two-day School Review, and I’m thrilled to share that it was a positive experience. The review panel highlighted many strengths within our school community, including our strong academic outcomes, the success of our bilingual education program, and the high levels of engagement observed in classrooms. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the great work happening across the school, and we look forward to using the feedback to keep building on our success.
School Values – Community Input needed!!
As a part of initial work around the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, we would like to review our current School Values with staff, students, and the wider school community. Please read through the list of valued behaviours and attitudes included in the Google Form, and identify five that you believe are essential for the success of our students. Then, rank them by placing the most important value as Option 1 and the least important as Option 5. Survey can be accessed via the link here. Please complete it by 11 am, Thursday 26 June. Your input would be much appreciated.
Late Arrival:
A quick but important reminder to families: if your child arrives at school after 9am, please make sure to sign them in at the front office. This process is crucial to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and keeping our school community safe.
Snapshot from the Classrooms:
This week I had the pleasure of visiting the STEM room, where Miss Zhao led a fascinating discussion about traditional outdoor cooking methods used by Indigenous people. Students learned about how Indigenous people have historically used natural materials like shells as knives or spoons, and leaves as plates, resulting in almost no rubbish being produced. The class explored how these sustainable practices are still in use today in some communities. It was a wonderful integration of culture, history and environmental awareness, and the students were deeply engaged throughout the session.
I also visited the Year 5/6 classroom, where students were tackling the concept of calculating the area of triangles. Some shapes were straightforward, while others were more complex, requiring creative problem-solving. It was great to see students using a variety of strategies—breaking shapes into parts, applying formulas, and checking their reasoning with peers. Their enthusiasm and perseverance in working through challenging tasks was impressive, and it was clear they were enjoying the process of mathematical discovery.
