Student Learning - 3/4

Over the last two weeks, students in Year 3/4 have been exploring the writing strategy of “show, don’t tell.” "Show, don't tell" is a writing technique used to make stories more vivid and engaging. Instead of simply telling the reader what a character feels or what is happening in the story (e.g. “She was scared”), students learn to show it through actions, dialogue, and description (e.g. “She froze in place, her eyes wide as the door slowly creaked open”). To practise, students responded to the below picture prompt, where the main character finds a door that leads into The Magic Library. Here are some of amazing 3/4J examples:

In 3/4S, we have been working on making our writing more engaging for the reader. We have been focusiong on using descriptions and figurative language to show, not tell, what is happening in our stories.
