Week 9 - Mr. Ryan's Report
As we move through Week 9, there is a real sense of momentum as students continue to engage in meaningful learning experiences across the college.
Last week marked the final session of the Broader Horizons program for our Year 9 students. This time, they had the opportunity to visit the Buloke Shire Council Depot in Donald. Students were taken through how the council operates, the broad range of services it is responsible for, and what a typical day looks like for council staff. It was an insightful and engaging experience that offered a real-world glimpse into local government operations. A sincere thank you to the team at Buloke Shire Council for hosting our students, and to the North Central LLEN for their support in organising the program. The Broader Horizons initiative has been incredibly valuable and was thoroughly enjoyed by both students and staff alike.
Meanwhile, in the science classroom, our Year 8 students have been diving into the inner workings of the human body. Their investigations into the respiratory and digestive systems have sparked great curiosity and thoughtful discussion. It’s been fantastic to see students making connections between body systems and the importance of health and function.
On the PE front, our athletics unit continues to bring out some impressive efforts from students across all year levels. This week, high jump has taken centre stage, and we've seen some standout performances as students continue to refine their technique and challenge themselves to reach new heights—literally! The encouragement and support shown among peers has also been a highlight.
It’s been another strong week across the school, and we’re proud of the ongoing positivity, engagement, and enthusiasm we’re seeing in both classrooms and practical settings.

Advisory:
VET Taster Day
On the VET Taster Day our class had been able to pick three classes that we might be interested in doing next year. When all the other schools arrived, we met in the stadium, Tash Saunders welcomed everyone and had three other guests to talk about their careers and how they had been able to achieve them. After recess we all started our first class, I had engineering first up with Mr Moloney. The tasks we had to do were all linked to making a G clamp for next year. In my next class I had building and construction with Clint and Mick, we were able to use nail guns and were shown the construction of a wall. During lunch, the Lions Club had a BBQ for everyone with sausages and hamburgers. After lunch we had our last class, I had agriculture with Tahlijia Sheahan, she showed us around the school's farm, and we were able to play a couple fun games with her. After we had finished every met in the stadium, Tash Saunders farewelled everyone. - Written by Murphy Fitzpatrick

On Wednesday we travelled to Donald with Julie Bourke, Abby Mulqinny and Mr Ryan. When we got to Donald we went to the Shire yard and met with the Project Manager. At the yard we saw some trucks and then we went out to the aerodrome. The Shire workers shared their knowledge about the different aerodromes that are used in our area and why. We learnt that workers from the Shire need to check the aerodrome before anyone lands on it and some that cant be used at night. My favourite part was looking at the aerodrome. Thank you to Julie from NCCLEN for organising the day and all our Broader Horizon events. Thank you to Abby and Mr Ryan for taking the time out of their day to take us to Donald. - Written by Own Burr.

The Year 9’s participated in a peer feedback activity as part of the English class this week. Students had to review their classmates creative written draft and provide constructive feedback to their peers. I think the students really enjoyed playing the role of teacher for a little while!
