This is what our students have been up to this week.
Our year 6 class has been busy practising in the human powered vehicle in preparation for the race in term 4. Students are working on design, build and test machines within detailed specifications.
The Energy Breakthrough is a joint initiative of the Country Education Partnership and the Central Goldfields Shire Council.
Since 1991, the Energy Breakthrough has provided opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle, a machine or innovation in technology that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’.
The program encourages participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally. It requires a team effort and an across-the-curriculum approach.
Our students will bring their vehicles and machines to Maryborough in Victoria for a huge celebration in which they can demonstrate and trial them in action.
This week Class 4/5 have been having lots of fun hosting the Potato Olympics. Events include: an opening ceremony, running, weightlifting, spinning, high bars, gymnastics, velodrome, diving, lawn bowls and possibly catapulting.
Medals have been highly sought after!
Students have been practicing their measuring and comparison skills, measuring attributes such as: length, circumference, mass, duration and revolutions.
The potato-athletes have also been well decorated for ceremony and competition. Students have created profiles detailing their potato-athlete’s attributes, country and flag, along with their predictions of what event their potato-athlete will be best at and why.
Let the games continue!
