Level 1

Welcome to Term 3!
We are so excited to be back for another wonderful term! The students have returned feeling refreshed, rested, and ready to learn. We've already had a fantastic start with our school production in week 1. The energy was buzzing, and we were so proud of how confidently each student performed on the big stage with such bravery and enthusiasm!
Coming up this term, we’re heading on our Level 1 Excursion to the Melbourne Museum and IMAX on Monday 19th August, to support our Science-based Inquiry topic ‘Mini Beasts’. We're looking for three parent volunteers per class to join us on this fun and educational day. If you’re available, have a valid Working with Children Check, and have completed the HEPS Parent Training Course, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Another exciting event this term is the Level 1 Expo, where families will be invited to come and see the incredible work the students have been doing. More details will be shared closer to the date – stay tuned!
Book Creator
Last term, our focus in Writing was learning how to create engaging narratives. Students explored how to write a bold beginning, introduce an interesting problem, and create a thoughtful resolution. They planned their stories carefully, wrote drafts in their Writing books, and then published their stories using the Book Creator app. The process was creative and fun, with students illustrating their stories, creating maps, and even adding internet images to bring their narratives to life. To celebrate, the students shared their published books with each other by scanning QR codes to view the stories. Families are welcome to take a look too! Simply scan the QR code below to enjoy the amazing stories our Level 1 students have created.
Literacy
In Literacy, we’ve jumped into our ‘Mini Beasts’ unit with great excitement! So far, we’ve explored ants, butterflies, spiders, and bees. We’ve been learning about their diet, appearance, habitats, and other fascinating facts. After gathering our information, we will be working on creating well-structured information reports, using interesting sentences to share what we've learned about these amazing creatures.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve begun a new unit on Measurement. We’ve been exploring informal ways to measure objects using tools such as paperclips, unifix cubes and pencils – we even measured each other! We’ve also started learning about volume (how much space something takes up) and capacity (how much it can hold). We have used rice and sand to estimate, compare, and order containers based on how much they could hold. The students really enjoyed this hands-on learning experience!
