Production

We are so proud of the effort, enthusiasm and behaviour the Level 5 students showed throughout all of the rehearsals and performances. They were incredibly committed to learning the dances, lines and stage positions. Look at these incredible performers!!!

Literacy

In Reading we have been focused on non-fiction texts relating to our Inquiry topic 'Change'. We are researching and note taking when reading information about the different 'biomes' on the Earth. This week we have explored deserts, and we will move to grasslands and their features.

Procedural texts are our main focus for writing throughout these first few weeks. We started our unit with a fun activity where students had to write clear instructions on how to make a sandwich. From here the teachers followed the steps EXACTLY! This was hilarious as many instructions lacked specific details and lead to some STICKY situations. Students then followed each other's instructions which lead to more laughter and awkward sandwich moments! The lesson was learnt by all that instructions need to be DETAILED and SPECIFIC in procedural texts.

Last term we created some amazing podcasts so we thought we would include a few more for you enjoy!

Numeracy

In Maths we have been focused on reviewing fluency, multiplication facts, algebra and finding unknown values. We are also looking at the different types of data and the collection, collation, organisation and representation of data using digital technologies. We will move to understanding money, rounding money and real-life worded problems.

Please ensure your child has 'Google sheets' on their iPad for upcoming lessons.

Inquiry

'Change' is our Inquiry topic this term. We will be looking at animal and plant adaptations and all the incredible facts that come with learning about this topic. We have started with the 'Theory of evolution' and the wonderful way animals and plants adapt to their different habitats. We delved into the Galapagos islands and the way the finches on each island have adapted slightly depending on the habitat. This was a 'Battle of the beaks' lesson testing the most effective shape of a beak for eating different foods.

Kinder connection visits

We are very lucky to have a wonderful relationship with Heathmont East Pre School. This term our visits will be at HEPS and our Levels 5s are excited to share school life and experiences with our lovely little friends.
