Duke of Edinburgh:

Great Ocean Walk Adventurous Journey

On Tuesday 5th of September, 26 year 9 students completing the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award embarked on an adventurous journey along the Great Ocean Walk. After meeting the hiking guides in Apollo Bay, the students split off into their three hiking groups and started the hike from different points along the Great Ocean Walk. Carrying food, tents, clothes, and other equipment on their backs, the students walked over 30km across the 4-day trip.

Throughout the camp students developed their outdoor living skills including cooking on Trangia stoves, setting up tents, travelling as a group and navigating through a range of terrains. The groups were treated to stunning weather on some days and torrential rain on others as they walked along pristine beaches, through blissful rainforests and up along coastal cliffs.

At different stages of the hike, all students were challenged, however demonstrated outstanding resilience to overcome the difficulties they faced. Pending the submission of their hike reflection, all students were successful in meeting the requirements for the adventurous journey section of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.

I would like to give a big thank you to Mr Merric Butler, and Mr. David Morris for attending the camp.
