Principal Team Report

Term 3 has provided a wealth of opportunities for students to fully participate in school life on- and off-site. Duke of Edinburgh camp was a huge success this term, with students and teachers enthusiastic about braving the barely-into-spring weather. Our sports teams continue to represent the very best of our school values: excellence in their winning spirit, citizenship in working together, and respect in their behaviour towards all competitors. Throughout this term, there have been Art, Drama, STEM, and Humanities excursions that have enriched student learning. We encourage you to read more about these activities in the articles that follow.

Our Instrumental Music Program goes from strength to strength, with bands and ensembles acquitting themselves with honour in the recent South Street Music Festival in Ballarat. In the final week of term, it has been a privilege to see our students come together to celebrate their year in music at the Annual Spring Concert. The standard of music, hard work and commitment of students continues to impress, and it was a pleasure to celebrate their growth and achievement alongside friends, families and teachers.

The Art Block refurbishment has completed our recent program of upgrades to the learning spaces in the school. Students and Art teachers are enjoying the use of the brightly lit, open new classrooms, while the building has a number of freshly refitted general-purpose rooms that can be used by accessed by the whole school community.

Our VCE Centre is proving to be a major asset in providing and hub for VCE classes, as well as a purpose-designed space for exams that can be used at all year levels.

As Term 3 closes, our Year 12 students are completing their practice exams and our incoming 2024 Year 7 students have visited to do their Edutest Assessment. While we look forward to welcoming a new cohort of students into our community next year, we wish our graduating students the best for the future. May you fare well in the VCE exam period next term and follow your dreams and aspirations in the years to come.

Junior Boys Netball    School Sport Victoria

'Back to Back'  State Champions 2023

Last week our Junior Boys netball team headed out to Waverley for the School Sport Victoria State Championships, after progressing through both the Whitehorse Division and Eastern Metropolitan Region events undefeated.

From the first match of the day, the boys needed to be on their game as they were most certainly placed in the more difficult pool of the round-robin competition.

After some close games, but with a clean sweep of the pool matches with wins over Lavalla Catholic College (22-18), Gisborne Secondary College (29-12), and Catherine McAuley College (19-16), the boys took on the second placed team in the opposite draw for the semi-final which was Coburg High School.

With a very convincing win in this game, (25-3) they had to take on Lavalla Catholic College in the Final. By the end of the day, with their terrific skills, superior understanding of the rules of the game, and great sportsmanship the Blackburn High boys came away with a relatively easy win (28-16).

Congratulations Jorge, Jacob, Kai, Reuben, Cooper, Hunter, Aiden, Callum, Thomas, and Charlie.

What makes this so special is that 5 of the boys in this team were a part of the 2022 Junior Boys Netball team which also won the state final (Kai, Jacob, Callum, Thomas, and Charlie).

A big thank you to the parents who came along to support the boys and to Ms. Perrin who assisted with coaching the boys at the EMR and State level.
