Principal's Report

Dear St A’s Community,

The past 2 weeks at St A’s have been wonderful.  I really feel that we have so many fun and exciting learning and activities happening here.  Our students are very lucky to be part of all the festivities!

BOOK Week!

Last week we celebrated Book Week!  It was great to see so many students and teachers dressed up for the Book Week Parade. This event was so colourful and fun!  A highlight of the year for some of our students!  A big thank you to all the parents and families that organised the costumes for the students – we work in partnership together and could not do what we do without the support from home!  During Book Week the students also had 2 special author visits – James Lee and Carol Vass.

JPC Van

Last Tuesday night, myself and a group of staff members volunteered their time and headed out onto the JPC Community Companion Van to support the needs of the wider Frankston community who are doing it quite ‘tough’. During the night we were able to give out many donations that were generously donated by our school community and spent time talking and connecting with people that just need a bit of a helping hand. This work is part of our commitments to catholic social teaching – preferential option for the poor and dignity of the human person. Thank you to Mrs K, Miss Michelle, Mrs Mathysen and Miss Bishop.

Murder Mystery Night

On Saturday night our wonderful community came together for a parent social event organised by our amazing P& F.  The Murder Mystery night was a great success and was a great opportunity for our parents to socialise in a different setting.  The night was filled with glamour and fun and all that attended got into the spirit of things in full costume!  Thank you to all the amazing workers behind the scenes who got this event up and running! Congratulations to “Table 8” for successfully working out which ‘gang’ completed the crime!

Congratulations

Over the past 3 weeks, three of our teachers completed their VIT project and now are classified as fully registered teachers! Congratulations to Miss Bella Chaundy, Miss Kate Trickey, and Miss Shenel V!  Your hard work and dedication has paid off!

Sport News

Last week we had 2 school teams participating in the Bayside District Basketball Lightning Premiership!  Well done to both teams that competed!  Our girls' team came third overall and the boys' teams came out on top!  The boys' team will now move onto the next round in October. Congratulations to both teams on the way that you all played and how you represented our school!

This week a team of 42 students from Grade 3 to Grade 6 participated at Bayside District Field Carnival at Ballam Park. We had some fierce competition and our students once again showed great sportsmanship and grit!  We were lucky enough to get some first, second and third place winners!  Congratulations to all of our athletes who competed and to all of those students who will move to the next level!

Andrew Chin Concert and St Augustine’s Feast Day

What a day it was on Monday for all of our students to participate in the Andrew Chin workshops, before they had a chance to perform in the concert in front of the whole school!  It was great to see the student’s excitement when it was their time to perform!  Well done to all the students who participated and immersed themselves in this singing experience!

LSO Day

This week we also celebrated LSO day – a time to thank all of the amazing support workers in our school who constantly go above and beyond to support the individual needs of all the students in our care!

Production

I can’t forget this!!  Our students also had their first whole school production rehearsal!  Exciting times ahead as the students prepare for October the 17th!!  Tickets go on sale on Monday, 4th September. Keep up the great work!

Hasta luego!

Over the next few weeks I will be in Spain completing the Camino. The Camino is historically a religious pilgrimage to the tomb of St James (one of the 12 disciples of Jesus).  St James was a faithful follower of Jesus, who was the first disciple to die a martyr when he was beheaded under the command of Herod Agrippa, king of the Herodian’s. Together with Peter and his brother John, St James is considered one of the three most important disciples. As we walk we become pilgrims and walk to connect and discover a deeper meaning in life, to spiritually connect with nature or ourselves, or walk to find answers to deep questions.  I have been told that I will return as a more “grounded" person.  As part of my journey I will share some of my religious/spiritual connections along the way.

In my absence Mrs Emma Ramsamy will take over as Acting Principal.

God Bless, Show Grace and Be the Joy for others.

Take care
