National Child Protection Week 2023

National Child Protection week starts on Sunday 3 September. This year’s theme is “Where we start matters”. National Child Protection Week is all about the ways that we can all work together to build communities that support children and families.

Children are safest when they are listened to, respected and believed.

All adults can play a part by ‘tuning in’ to children in everyday situations about small worries; then they are much more likely to feel comfortable telling us if something big is wrong.

National Child Protection Week is a great time to start conversations with children and families about feeling safe.

We have an action team of 6 students from the Junior and Senior school, who are helping me around the area of Child safety.

They have been working on a few actions to help the students at SFS feel safe at school. They are making a problem box for each learning space, where the children can write about a problem they may be having at school, put it in the box if they are a bit unsure of talking to a teacher, then the teacher can follow up the concern. The team would also like all of the children at SFS to complete a safety network identifying 5 trusted adults they can speak to if they feel scared and unsafe.

SFS Twilight Community Market

The count down has begun. Only 10 weeks to go. Tell your family and friends and make sure you have the date marked in your calendar! We have a variety of stalls and food trucks booked in this year with lots of great things to buy and yummy food to try. A great opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. Some of the stalls include children’s toys, jewellery, handmade goods, candles, homewares, hair accessories, plants and so much more!!!!!!

Lego club

This week’s challenge in lego club was a free build. The children could build anything they liked but only using 30 pieces of lego for their build. The children had to practice their communication skills and co-operative skills to discuss and decide as a group what they wanted to build and listen to each other’s ideas.

Parent Teacher Interviews

I will be going on Long service for the last week of this term so I will not be available on the Parent Teacher Interview evening. If any parents would like to speak to me about their child either for Specialist subject or children I work with in a Social skill’s group, please contact me to make a time to speak this week or next week.

If you have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
