LS2 Senior News

The LS2 Senior students have been working on showing their appreciation to their Dad’s as they prepare for Father’s Day this Sunday.

With great enthusiasm, the students have written news articles, profiles and poetry to capture just how they feel about the father figure in their life, be it Dad, Grandad, Stepdad, Uncle or special person.

We learned how Australia officially recognised Father's Day in 1958, and the Commonwealth followed suit in 1964.

The USA finally recognised Father's Day in 1972.

Children discussed the many different ways they will be celebrating Father’s Day this year and some reflected on how this has changed since Covid lockdown.

Here are some examples of what our students have been working on…

SPORTS NEWS

SENIOR SPORTS

INTERSCHOOL SPORTS (Gr 5/6)

SFS vs Casey Fields

Today our Grade 5/6's played Interschool Sport against Casey Fields Primary School and the weather was kind to us.  Casey Fields Primary School is one of the strongest schools in our district.  Both schools played with good sportsmanship, so I congratulate both schools with their behaviour.  Our Basketball teams both won, well done on a great achievement.  Our Kickball A team drew, however our Kickball B and Football  team hasn't lost as yet, well done. Unfortunately, our Tennis and Handball teams both lost.

SFS girls 22 v Casey 19 (SFS girls won)

SWIMMING

Thank you to all the parents for completing the swimming Operoo form and to the parents of the Juniors, Grade3 and any new senior students for completing the swimming ability forms. For Grade 4-6 students, the pool will use their groupings from last year initially but all students will be reassessed in their first swimming lesson.

Parents who have volunteered to assist the juniors, I will be checking that your Working with Children is registered with the school office and will be in contact with you prior to swimming beginning.

Swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the Operoo permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home as swimming days change for the different Learning Spaces. Currently they are in Microsoft Word format so will need to be downloaded on a computer or laptop. I will be changing them to a PDF format so that they can also be downloaded on mobile phones.

Swimming is usually:

Mondays LS1 Seniors, LS1 Juniors, LS2 Juniors

Tuesdays LS3 Juniors, LS2 Seniors, LS3 Seniors

However there are a few days due to Production Practises where groups have been swapped around and there are also a couple of Wednesdays and Thursdays where we attend swimming.

FOOTY FUN DAY

As is the tradition, Footy Fun Day will be held on the last day of term. We encourage students and staff to come dressed in their footy clothes or footy team colours. P & F will be organising a footy hotdog lunch, further information will be provided shortly. Wednesday I met with the Grade 6 students interested in assisting the Juniors with their footy rotations. I was amazed at the number of volunteers I had! Very impressive!

Parents we ask you to please acknowledge the Operoo form posted for Footy Fun Day. An approximate timetable for the day can also be found on the Operoo note.
