Education in Faith22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Living the Gospel ... Who do YOU say I am?

The question that Jesus asks his disciples is a question he asks of all of us. How we answer that question reflects our relationship with Jesus. But more importantly, how we answer that question reflects the way we live our life in response to who we believe Jesus to be. If we truly say that we believe in Jesus as the son of God, then how do we live our lives in such a way that we act on that belief? The gospel shows us that an inadequate answer to that question leads to missing the point of all that Jesus is.

Discussion Starters

If people thought that Jesus was another of the prophets, how might they have expected him to behave?

Why did Jesus order the disciples to tell no one that he was the Messiah?

Why did Jesus give Simon Peter a ‘new’ name?

When are people today given a ‘new’ name?

How would you answer Jesus’ question, ‘Who do you say I am?’

Why was it significant that Peter’s profession of faith took place outside Jewish territory?

How would you answer Jesus’ question, ‘Who do you say I am?’

What are different ways in which people answer Jesus’ question?

In what ways have some people used a mistaken understanding of who they believed Jesus to be?

How would Jesus’ confirmation of Peter’s declaration have made a difference to the way the disciples saw Jesus?

Sacrament of Confirmation

Thank you to Confirmation Candidates who participated in a Reflection day at school on Thursday, 31st August.

The children had the opportunity to meet with Bishop Tony Ireland. At the meeting, Bishop Tony further guided them by answering their questions. This enabled the children to reflect on their personal faith journey. He also restated the significance of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and their commitment to their faith.
