Year 10 ACC Football Carnival
On Wednesday 16 August, the Year 10 football team played in the annual ACC Division 1 Carnival held at Lightning Park in Noranda. In total there were 4 matches with some strong opposition from schools such as Mandurah Catholic College, Emmanuel College, Sacred Heart College and Corpus Christi College.
The team played really well with some strong performances from each player. It was really pleasing to see the team work on display as well as the strong attack on the ball. Some of the passages of play from defence to attack were simply outstanding.
The team won 2 out of the 4 matches with close losses to Emmanuel College and Mandurah Catholic College. The team finished in 3rd place out of the 5 schools competing. It was a great result and an excellent reward for a consistent effort over the course of the day in the top division of the competition.
A big thank you to Mr Truss for coaching the team on the day, the ACC and to the parents that came along and showed their support.
SSWA Junior Basketball
Mazenod took 3 teams of players, ranging from Year 7 to Year 9, to the SSWA Junior Basketball at Ray Owen on August 17th. We took out 2nd, 4th and 5th place in the Boys competition. The two biggest highlights of the carnival were i) a fierce battle between Mazenod’s 1st team and 2nd team which saw the 1st team prevail in the final minute thanks to some magic from Ryder H, and ii) Mazenod’s 3rd team (made of just Year 7s and 8s) giving Mundaring Christian’s much older and bigger team a tight match right down to the final buzzer, showcasing great passion and determination. All teams played with immense respect and represented the College well.
Mazenod’s 1st team placed second, so will progress through to the next round at Willeton on Wednesday 30 August.
A massive thanks to the Year 11 and 12 coaches, the fantastic group of parents who attended, and the brilliant Mr Websdale, who all helped make the day a great one.
Senior Soccor Report
The Senior Soccer boys had a magnificent win in the quarter finals at Safety Bay on Wednesday. Mazenod were 1-0 down in the first 5 minutes but rallied to a 2-1 victory with goals from Luca S and Lachlan U. The commitment from all of the players was outstanding.
Congratulations Jackson!
Jackson has been selected to be a part of the West Coast Eagles Next Generation Academy - Naitanui Academy. The Next Generation Academies (NGA's) are a joint initiative between the AFL and AFL Clubs aimed at the attraction, retention and development of all talented players (both male and female), whilst growing participation in the under-represented segments of our community. (Jackson’s mother was born in South Africa).
A scout saw Jackson play and he was invited to join the academy. He will train under the guidance of West Coast Eagles coaches and former and current players with training at Mineral Resources Park 1-2 times a month. It is a great opportunity for him to enhance his skills as a player, learn knowledge from experts and also share knowledge with his teammates.
ACC Athletics
Students are reminded that Athletics Training is on next Wednesday 30 August starting at 3:30-4:30pm. All students in the preliminary team are encouraged to attend this session. This will be the last training session before the final ACC team is picked.
