Mid-Year Concert
The Thornbury High School Mid-Year Concert took place on Monday the 24th of July, in the auditorium. The concert went from 6.00pm to 8.30 pm, but the students had to get there at 5.30 so that we had time to set up our instruments and do a quick rehearsal. The first act was Stage Band performing the songs: ‘Joe Avery’s Second Line Blues’ - Trad, ‘Caravan’ - Duke Ellington & Juan Tizol, and ‘Birdland’ - Joe Zawinal. The second act was the choir. I was in the choir and we sang two songs. The first song was Falling Slowly, and the second song was Ready Or Not by The Fugees which we performed with the hip-hop crew who did their awesome dance.
After the choir, there were 4 performances and then it was the intermission. The four performances were: The Intermediate Band led by Mark Mathews, The (Afro Cuban Ensemble) Egg Rollers led by Cheryl Durongpisitkul, the String Ensemble led by Karen Baker, and Funk Soul Citizen (year 8 extension band) led by Nathan Power.
Straight after the intermission, the Year 7 Extension Band were on (we called ourselves the Half-Dead Rats, because why not?). We played two songs: Don’t Start Now by Dua Lipa, and Save Your Tears by The Weekend. We had been practicing these two songs pretty much since our first rehearsal at the start of term two, and we had definitely improved a lot!
The Clarinet Ensemble was after us, directed by Karen Baker.
And then there were three...The VCE Ensemble (director Finn O’Sullivan), Flute Ensemble (again directed by Karen Baker), and last, but certainly not least, Concert Band (director Sean Nihill).
