Principal's Report

Term 3 has started with a flurry of activity. Our teaching staff started the term with a curriculum day dedicated to ensuring the key knowledge and skills in each curriculum area has been documented, with a focus on clarifying student misconceptions and developing core understandings that lead to further learning. These curriculum days are an essential part of the work our staff do and the time together to plan what happens in the classroom is invaluable.

A real highlight for me so far this term was the opportunity to take part in the mid year awards for our students in years 7-11. The awards recognise the students who have demonstrated exceptional learning dispositions and those that have achieved incredible results across their subjects. It was my first time participating in the ceremonies and it was an honour to be able to congratulate all of the students involved. Thank you to all of the parents, carers and friends who came along to celebrate with us, it is so important to take the time to reflect on the hard work and dedication that many of our students have demonstrated in the first half of the year.

In addition to our awards ceremonies we have had a variety of other events running throughout the start of the term. Our senior students took part in the Tertiary Expo, where institutions from across Melbourne came and shared their post-school pathway options. Our Futures Expo took place in week 4 and it was great to see so many of our families in attendance and taking a real interest in the learning pathways of our young people. We have also seen our Performing Arts faculty demonstrating their skills at the fantastic Mid-Year Music Concert which was a real treat, a highlight for me was the school choir. Our school production has started filming and our Year 12 formal was a great success.

Term 3 is also when we confirm our Year 7 enrolments for the following year and the high level of interest in the school is a testament to the great work that is happening and the reputation of the school in our local community.

Thank you to all of the staff, students, parents and friends of the school for your continued support and for making Thornbury High such a great place to work and learn. I look forward to seeing you at the next school event.

All the best,

Adam Cribbes
