Senior School

Years 11 & 12

Student of the term

Year 11

Olivia Moffat 11 Red

Olivia has demonstrated her leadership qualities throughout the year. She is actively involved in the social justice activities at the Academy and promotes these regularly in her Mentor Group.

Olivia has been described by her teachers as hardworking, polite, intelligent, kind, and reliable. She is part of the debating team and has volunteered at St Mary’s House of Welcome. As the justice captain for her Mentor Group, she is punctual, attentive, helpful and encouraging of her peers.

Olivia has also volunteered to support year level activities, including the Mentor Group Cup.

Year 12

Isobel Cuthbert 12 Red

Isobel has had an exceptional year in 2023. She constantly has a smile on her face and is the first person to put her hand up to provide support for any of her peers in need. This student has a gift in having the ability to empathise with her fellow classmates and provide much needed support to everyone throughout the stress of the VCE year.

Isobel's subject teachers have commented positively on her kind, friendly nature and the positive energy she provides in class. No stranger to hard work, this student has been involved in many groups and activities this year and especially this term.

She is a member of the Academian Team, in Earth@Academy she took on a role leading the organisation of the Fashion Parade, and she was a key person in assisting in the success of Pride Day. Isobel always contributes, but often in a way that goes unnoticed by many. According to Ms. Muller, she also has the hidden talent of being able to make a superb Oreo Cookie from scratch!

Year 12 English: Recent highlights

Last month, Year 12 English students were treated to a performance of their studied texts The Crucible and The Dressmaker. A troupe from Complete Works Theatre Company performed excerpts from each text, bringing the characters and ideas to life. Students came to appreciate the theatrical qualities of Miller’s play in particular, furthering their understanding of his examination of the fine but destructive line between social conformity and chaos.

Earlier this month, in a session after school, many of our Year 12 scholars attended a seminar run by their English teachers. It was most pleasing to see our students attend this voluntary event - outside of school hours no less - and bring with them intelligent questions and thought-provoking propositions. Similar sessions will be offered next term in preparation for the forthcoming examination and students are encouraged to attend.
