Middle School

Years 9 &10

Student of the term

Year 9

Zara Fox 9 Barak

Zara is a mature student who is known for her positive and friendly manner. She always has a smile on her face and treats others with respect and dignity. Her teachers appreciate the fact that she always says thank you at the end of every class.

Zara is an extremely conscientious student who always aims to improve the standard of her work by regularly seeking feedback. She is currently doing Year 10 Maths where she is known for her incisive questions and contributions to the class. Moreover, she is an active member of Earth at Academy where she is working on a project with researchers at Melbourne University to utilize a website which she helped co design last year regarding climate change and young people’s experiences.

Year 10

Sienna Komarnycki 10 Red

Sienna is the embodiment of an all-rounder, having left a memorable impression across multiple domains.  Academically, this student has shown a real maturity in her dedication to learning tasks and an openness to trying new things - her acting teacher stating that she is willing to take risks to improve. Her religion teacher echoes this impression noting she asks lots of questions and contributes generously!

However, Sienna's contributions extend far beyond academic excellence. She possesses innate leadership abilities that have come to the fore during House events, leading the intermediate Sherlock girls to victory twice this year! In addition to these sporting achievements, this student's involvement in the creation of an online mental health hub reflect her passion and drive to leave a positive mark on her school and peers.

Amidst these accomplishments, this student has been a real role model and leader in the Senior string ensemble, Isabella Strings. She attended all scheduled rehearsals, helped other parts in rehearsal and practised and refined very difficult musical passages, to ensure the ensemble piece was executed well in the concert.

It's evident that Sienna is more than an all-rounder; she is an inspiration, and she undeniably leaves an enduring legacy for those who follow.

Year 9 Radical Women - Barbie World

The Radical Women Elective class from Year 9 had the opportunity to head into the city to see the Barbie movie! The release of the film was perfect timing for the students to see their classwork in a pop culture form. Students were able to see how the waves of feminism have impacted the world, as well as being able to compare patriarchal and matriarchal systems.

Although the film is a humorous take on a beloved toy, the film emphasized some key issues around feminism, women’s rights and the effect of the patriarchy on men’s lives. The students completed a film study in the final weeks of term, to identify and hypothesize how this film will add to the fourth wave of the feminist movement.

Year 9 Radical Women gave it 5 stars, what will your verdict be?
