Term 3  Mercy Spirit!

As stated in the last newsletter, the winning year level (Yr 7) of the McAuley Donation Drive, chose to forfeit their morning tea prize. Instead, they chose to use the money to buy more goods to donate to McAuley Community Services for Women. The students who had the honour to go on an excursion with Dr. Bryce Dermody to purchase the donations were, Renata Rojas Julian, Megan Dermody, Isabelle Naidoo, and Matilda Razga. The Justice group would like to thank all the Year 7s and Dr. Bryce Dermody Yr 7 Wellbeing Leader for demonstrating true Mercy spirit this Mercy Term.

At the Term 3 assembly, Hayley Marriot, the organization's Fundraising and Engagement Advisor, accepted the donations on behalf of McAuley Community Services for Women. She spoke briefly about the organisation's goal, “... to offer resources for children and women fleeing abuse or homelessness. Your generous donations are assisting women and children in rebuilding their lives.” Again, thank you to all who donated.

FIRE Carriers

Also, at the term three assembly the 2023 FIRE Carriers were initiated in a commissioning ceremony. To be a FIRE Carrier means to be Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. The dream of the FIRE Carrier program is to promote respect, fairness, and inclusion for First Nations People.

FIRE carriers are students and staff who share a passion for learning about First Nations culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting Reconciliation within and beyond the school community. To be a FIRE Carrier is to exercise an important role in the school community to further reconciliation and support First Nations people. Academy would like to congratulate our new FIRE Carriers - from Year 10 Cara Egry and Alisa Sanelli, and from Year 11 Harriet Berman, Hannah Cullen, Ellen Daffey and Olivia Moffat.

We have approached the final days for donating to the Justice Groups Mercy Works fundraiser. This is our final fundraiser for the year and every donation counts! As a Mercy school each Mercy term our focus is to raise funds or donations for Mercy charities. Mercy Works, in partnership with vulnerable communities & local organisations in Australia, The Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste supports people of these communities & organisations to build capacity and self-reliance.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
