Netball 'Not So Friendly'

REMATCH FOR REDEMPTION - In a stunning upset, Beda's Year 12 Leaders Netball "Friendly" (now known as "The Netball Wars of 2023") versus the stellar team at Mentone Girls Grammar School has been described in devastating detail by Captain Dylan Collins, who says Team Beda is taking time to recover from the heartbreaking loss.

"I'll focus on the good, rather than the way we’ve been cheated by dodgy rules:

- The stadium was absolutely packed with a fierce (quite terrifying actually) crowd.

- Our knowledge of the rules (particularly obstruction) really let us down and highlighted our lack of experience in comparison to the elite skills and structures of MGG. Rule 14 of the Federation of International Netball rules ‘footwork’ also was problematic.

- Our camaraderie remained strong, despite finding ourselves on the end of losing margin at the end of every quarter (well there were only 3 quarters in the end…corrupt).

- On several accounts, Mentone Girls being referred to as ‘Mentone’ proved to be highly confusing for us, the visiting Mentone school.

- Our athleticism simply wasn’t enough as the harassing defense of MGGS prevented us from using our ‘Hail Mary’ passing strategy.

- It was a face paced, intense game with the crowd roaring at every fumble or missed shot

- We are very eager for a redemption game."

Salt was rubbed further into the Beda battle wounds the following day, on delivery of an important document from the winning team, as evidenced in the last image. At the time of publishing, team Beda is anxiously awaiting a rematch confirmation from Mentone Girls Grammar School. Stay tuned!

Environment Update

Campus Composting

In our mission to reduce our footprint and become more sustainable, our Mentone Campus now has a compost bin for staff food waste.

This compost can be used to enrich the nutrient content of the soil in our Vocational Major vegetable gardens, where students grow produce that's donated to food kitchens. With a clew of worms (yes - the collective noun for worms!) in the garden bed under the compost, we'll be feeding our subterranean friends with what would have ended up in landfill.

Community Recycling Bins

We'll soon be welcoming new bins for families to recycle batteries and other household items. These items can be sent to school with students to streamline our recycling processes. It’s a great way to involve your children in the process of recycling and helping them become aware that some things don’t just ‘disappear’ in the bin.

"Batteries contain harmful substances including mercury, cadmium and lead. These chemicals and materials can be dangerous if mixed with other waste streams and cause damage to the environment if placed in landfill." Close the Loop

Eco-Product to Ponder

Feeling chilly? We tried a sustainable down puffy blanket by Nakie. Made from 54% post-consumer plastic bottles, these blankets are made 100% from recycled material. Stain, tear and water resistant, they're perfect for adventures. Camping, drive-in, on your lap at the footy or even as a spare blanket at home. 4 trees are planted for each purchase.

Nakie is a certified B corporation. Find out more here

Finian Foundation Charity Golf Day

6 Event Sponsorships Remain!

Friday 20 October

Don't miss a great day of golfing, gathering and feel-good fun at our annual fundraising event! The Finian Foundation Charity Golf Day is the premier event that brings essential funds for St Bede’s students whose families are experiencing great financial hardship.

These funds are raised thanks to the sponsors of this event - from our College and Old Collegians. As well as reaching 21,000 people in our local community, event sponsorship offers great exposure to promote your business, give back to the community - and is 100% tax deductible.

This year, we need 6 more sponsors to achieve our fundraising goal. If you're a business owner, please explore our sponsorship packagesto see how your business can support St Bede's College families in need.
