Assembly
At assembly on Monday, Miss D’s Literacy group shared their explanations. The task was for students to design a machine and explain how it works. Each one is well worth a read, as many details and much imagination has been used! The machines include a Lego …??, an Auto Shopper, a Family Pleaser, a Sports Helper, a Draw-O-Matic and a Chef Machine. Drop by the building some time to have a look.
Star Students
Learning Detectives of the week: Archie and Cody, for both demonstrating great listening and remembering in reading.
Year 3 &4: Lily, for working hard on her Greek goddesses and god's task.
Year 5 & 6: Rhys, for being very focused during Lit Circle time and trying his best.
Reading Awards
With holidays just around the corner, I hope students have refreshed their readers and library books this week to continue their reading in the holidays. Congratulations to the students who have reached the following milestones:
100 nights: Charlie & Archie.
175 nights: Ashton.
Book Recommendation
Chace gave this week’s book recommendation. He recommended, Billy and the Giant Adventure. Chace says the book contains adventure, fantasy and mystery. It is set in the waterfall woods. The main characters are Billy, Anna, Jimmy and Andy. Billy and his friends sneak into the woods to explore and end up saving the woods. Chace recommends it to older Primary students and rates it 5 stars!
Vision Screening
I want to congratulate the parents who acted immediately and followed up on the recommendation to have their child’s eyes tested further. A pat on the back to you all!
Berry Street Training
Last Friday staff undertook the first of four Berry Street training days. It is all about keeping our classrooms calm. It focuses on having students in the appropriate headspace for learning. It was pleasing that we were already doing a lot of good things, and much of what was introduced on Friday will only require us to make some tweaks to what we already do. The F-6 staff met as a team on Tuesday and have decided on some things that we will implement in Term 4. Beginning with a Morning Circle and Greeting. As time goes on, we will gradually build more strategies into our regular routine.
A big thank you to Kate and Dan who have assisted in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden classes throughout the term. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Late Stay and Sleep Over
One for the diary, parents of Foundation, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3!
Foundation and Year 1 students will ‘Stay Late’ at school on Monday 6th November (Melbourne Cup Eve) and the Year 2 and Year 3 students will stay also and sleep over that same night.
Open Numeracy Classrooms
We would like to thank all the people who took the time to visit our Numeracy classrooms last Wednesday. The way numeracy is taught is a lot different to how it was when many of us were at school. On top of this, the students really enjoy being able to share what they do with others.
Foundation demonstrated how they use the Maths U See blocks.
Ashton and his Mum.
Sophie being watched by her Mum.
It looks like Ms Yap put the visitors to work!
Tom and his Dad.
Lily being watched by Miss O’Callaghan and her Mum.
Tamsyn and her Mum.
Enjoy the holidays everyone! Let's hope the weather stays fine so we can enjoy some outdoor time. See you all back, refreshed for a busy final term.
