NAGLE HOUSE

Girls' Boarding Coordinator

Last week we celebrated with the Year 12 girls as they experienced their final weeks in Mount Erin Boarding by attending the Graduation Mass and formal dinner. It was fabulous to reflect on their boarding journey and plans for the future.

Zara English has shared a little of the Year 12’s feelings as they come to the end of their journey with us and look forward to new beginnings.

We, as year twelves are finishing up our time at Mount Erin Boarding. At the beginning of Term 3 we were all stressing about our trial exams that took place over weeks 3 and 4. We were extremely grateful that we were able to stay at boarding during the days we did not have any exams and could have a well-deserved sleep-in. Week 6 was an exciting week for all of us, as we had our Boarding Graduation. The night began with a lovely Mass at Mount Erin Chapel, with the Mount Erin Boarding community along with teachers and principals from both Mater Dei and Kildare. We then traveled to the Rules Club for dinner and speeches. Over our last few weeks here at Mount Erin Boarding we have been enjoying time with friends and studying for our upcoming HSC exams. We are sad to leave the friends we have made, but we are excited for these new chapters of our lives.

Many of the girls attend extracurricular activities. Lucy Cattle recently competed in Sydney at State level for gymnastics in Beam, Floor, Bars, and Vault doing her personal best. Celeste has been attending weekly art classes and has shared about her art lessons.

I go to an art class at the 'Little Yellow House Gallery’ which is taught by Maggie Deall. Maggie teaches me and some others many new skills ranging from general painting and drawing as well as the craft side of things like jewelry, sculpting with clay, paper mache, etc. Combined with the usual chatter, music, and food provided there is always a bright atmosphere making lessons enjoyable and something to look forward to every week.

Celeste Crain. (Year 9)

Scarlett in Year 8 recently attended an activity at Notre Dame University.

Yesterday I took part in the Sun Safe Ambassador program where we taught about Melanoma. My favourite thing was hanging out with people from all different schools and learning about sun safe. I learnt some great facts including 1 person in Australia gets diagnosed every 30 minutes. It will make me more aware of the importance being sun safe.

Scarlett Jenkins. (Year 8)

The last two terms have gone by very fast and we are noticing just how fast our young women are growing up especially the Year 7 & 8 girls who have learned many independent living skills. The year 11 girls have been busy with exams and it has been fabulous to see them study together and encourage one another. They are now starting to think about starting Year 12 next term. They have had some amazing role models this year and we look forward to seeing the impact that they will make on the Mount Erin community as they lead next year. Next term we look forward to warmer days and getting ready for Christmas decorating the tree and doing some Christmas-based crafts. Term 4 is always very special after the business of the year; everyone looks forward to the Christmas break and being able to spend time with their families.

                                      RICE HOUSE

Boys Boarding Coordinator

So little time left to go in what has been a very busy term for our RICE House Boarders.

HSC Trial exams took place in weeks 3 & 4 and that experience under pressure will hopefully be rewarded when our Year 12 Boarders commence their HSC examinations on October 11.

Our Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner was held in Week 6 and I believe it was a fitting and enjoyable finale for those students who will end their association with Mount Erin Boarding this year.

Many thanks to the family members who traveled to Wagga to celebrate the occasion with our four Year 12 RICE House Boarders (Jed Beavan, Lachlan Crawford, Bailey McDonald & Leon Smit), and a big thank you to all the organisers and contributors who made both these events very memorable.

At the time of writing, Year 11 Boarders have this week commenced their ‘Preliminary Exams’ and these will continue in Week 9 of the Term. So far the feedback from a majority of the boys has been very positive and hopefully, these examinations will be an excellent springboard to the start of their Year 12 studies which commence in Term 4.

Some of our Boys are still participating in ‘Footy Finals’ whilst many others have completed their respective seasons for 2023. The ‘hard luck’ and ‘premiership success’ stories have been shared evenly in the past couple of weeks so good luck to those boys who are still trying to win a premiership medal this year.

I trust everyone has a fantastic Term 3 break in a couple of weeks' time, please enjoy the time with your family and come back refreshed for Term 4 starting on October 9 and promising to go as quickly as Term 3 has done.

Term 3 has been an extremely busy term for the Senior Boys at MEBS. Our Year 12 students started the term with their HSC trials, which gave them a great insight into the HSC  exams they will face at the start of term 4. The Year 11 students have been working hard on their exams in weeks 8 and 9. Best of luck to all the students.

Canola crops are flowering which means one thing. Footy finals. Congratulations to Albert and Keiran Middleton, who won the Upper Murray League under 14 premiership for Tumbarumba against Cudgewa.

Commiserations to Jed and Angus, playing for Tumut against Kangaroos who were beaten 22 -12 in the Group 9 Weissel Cup minor semifinal. On a positive note, Jed and Angus were victorious for Kildare College against Xavier College Newcastle 18-16. The lads will travel to Sydney again, to play against a team from Melbourne. Good luck to Ewan at the Wagga Tigers and Isaac at the Osborne Tigers for their upcoming final series.
