Year 2 Learning Community

In Week 7 of Term 3 the Year 2 Learning Community participated in some fantastic CBCA Children’s Book Week celebration activities. We read many great books that had been nominated or won awards. These included Bev & Kev, Snap, Be Kind and Farmhouse. We drew pictures of Bev the Giraffe and worked as a team to build a huge Giraffe collaborative colouring in. Well done to all for showing our value of Collaboration. We made bookmarks and book covers. We created farmhouse collages and wrote about our Book Week characters. On Friday we dressed up as our favourite characters and had fun at the ACS Book Week Parade. Characters we dressed up included Harry Potter, Hermione, super heroes, sports stars, princesses and many more. The Year 2 Learning Community had a great time and explored awesome books during the 2023 Children’s Book Week!

Year 5 Learning Community

In Term 3, the Grade 5 students conducted two experiments within their Science units. In the first one, they put bread in different conditions and observed how mould did or didn’t grow due to the environment it was placed in.

Students had a visit from Michaela, a woman in biology, for their second experiment. They put food dye into water with different flowers to see how they changed, showing the different adaptations that flowers can have. Throughout these lessons, students completed observations to explain the changes that were occurring.

All of the Grade 5 students thoroughly enjoyed completing these experiments, with more to come in Term 4!

Year 10-12 Learning Community

The students in years 10-12 have exhibited remarkable dedication and teamwork in their efforts to prepare lunch, sweet treats, and hot beverages for our staff each Thursday. Their commitment to this endeavour has not only provided delicious and satisfying meals for our team but also fostered valuable life skills. With each passing week, these students are gaining increasing independence in managing the kitchen, handling financial transactions, and demonstrating an eagerness to learn and operate the EFTPOS machine. Their hard work and enthusiasm in this venture exemplify the excellent educational experiences and growth opportunities offered here at ACS.
