2023 Year 6 Melbourne Camp

On Wednesday the 23rd of August I woke up at 4:30am to get on the train. I arrived at the station at 5:45am. Soon after that everyone started to board the train. After the long three-hour journey, we arrived at the Southern Cross Station at 9:30am.

We started to make our way to our accommodation (C.Y.C) to drop our bags off and talk about the rules and the rooms. I shared a room with Greta, Amalee, Annabelle, and Freya. We slowly started to make our way to the IMAX Theatre (the biggest screen in the world). We watched an interesting documentary about climate change and extreme weather. As soon as the documentary finished, we had recess/lunch, and went into the Melbourne Museum. In the museum there were lots of things to look at such as dinosaur bones, insects and spiders, birds, and things to do with history.

It had been a long day, but everyone managed to have the energy to walk to Lygon Street. We still had time for some free roaming before dinner. We went to shops like 7 Eleven and Ezy Mart. We had dinner at the Universal Restaurant (Italian) . We had pizza, pasta, salad, and chicken. For dessert we had ice cream. We caught the tram back to the hotel and to wind ourselves down we had hot chocolate.

Thursday 24th of August

We started the day with a delicious breakfast. We had cereal, toast, bacon, eggs and apple juice. After that we started to walk to the M.C.G. We had a 2-hour tour, went to Game On and looked at the A.S.M (Australian Sports Museum). Lunch was at a nearby park; rolls, chips, a cookie and fruit. Everyone’s legs were so tired, but we had the strength to walk to the Shrine of Remembrance. We also had a guided tour there. We made our way to Swanston Street to go shopping. We caught the tram back to the accommodation to have dinner. We had chicken schnitzel and vegetables for dessert, and we had a brownie with ice cream. We had a room cleaning competition including performances. Room number 212 (Nabeila, Greta, Amalee, Annabelle and Freya) was the winning room. The winning room won three chocolates, first in line for hot chocolate and first class on the train home.

Friday 25th of August

We woke up and had a scrumptious breakfast. We had cereal and pancakes. Unfortunately, we cancelled going to parliament house, but we gladly went to the Queen Victoria Market instead. There were lots of little stalls that had food, jewellery, clothing and much more. We caught the tram back to C.Y.C to collect our bags. We arrived at the train station early so we got to buy food such as Hungry Jacks, sushi, donuts, and lollies. We got the train back to Warrnambool at 1:08pm and arrived at 4:40pm.

It was a fantastic camp. We all enjoyed being in Melbourne and we thank our teachers for organising camp, and Mr. Bail, Bobby Cunningham, Billy Earnshaw, and Mark Gravolin for coming with us.
