NUMERACY
This term in Maths, students will continue to develop their understanding of Multiplication and Division. Students will also partake in daily retrieval to strengthen their understanding of maths concepts. As a part of our Maths lessons, students are participating in Daily Number Fluency. Practising these skills allows students to further consolidate their automatic recall of maths facts.
In Numeracy, students will be learning to:
Year 3:
- Multiply and divide one- and two-digit numbers, representing problems using number sentences, diagrams and arrays, and using a variety of calculation strategies
- Recall and demonstrate proficiency with multiplication facts for 3, 4, 5 and 10; extend and apply facts to develop the related division facts
- Measure, order and compare objects using familiar metric units of length, area, mass and capacity
- Identify angles as measures of turn and compare angle sizes in everyday situations
Year 4:
- Solve problems involving multiplying or dividing natural numbers by multiples and powers of 10 without a calculator, using the multiplicative relationship between the place value of digits
- Recall and demonstrate proficiency with multiplication facts up to 10 × 10 and related division facts, and explain the patterns in these; extend and apply facts to develop efficient mental and written strategies for computation with larger numbers without a calculator
- Use scaled instruments to measure and compare lengths, masses, capacities and temperatures
- Compare angles and classify them as equal to, greater than or less than a right angle
The other applied Maths units that students will be exploring include Angles and Length.
