Regionals – Term 1
Our Intermediate Volleyball Girls Team represented HP at the Regionals Tournament on 29th April, making it to the Grand Final on the day! They all played so well and came runners up for the day. Great job girls!
The Senior and Intermediate Girls Tennis Teams also represented HP at Regionals on 29th and 30th April. Despite their amazing efforts and fierce competition on the day, they did not progress to State. While the outcome may not have been what we hoped for, the journey from Division to Regionals is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork from the girls. Great efforts!
Rugby Update
We are thrilled to share exciting updates from the HPSC Rugby Academy. Our Rebels Shield U16 Boys Team have shown incredible dedication and progress this season. The academy's emphasis on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship is paying off, with several players being recognised for their exceptional performance in recent matches. We've had an eventful series of matches already, with ups and downs that truly encapsulate the spirit of rugby. The Rebels Shield Tournament kicked off on the 8th of May with Round 1, HP vs Grange. While we faced a tough loss as Grange took the win, our resilience and determination shone through as we bounced back with two consecutive wins in the following games. Round 2 on the 15th of May, HP vs Mernda – finals scores 41-26, there were some amazing ball skills and plays executed during the game and a well deserved win! Round 3 HP vs Lara, the team left HPSC at recess on the day to travel quite a distance to The Geelong Rams Grounds. Showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination the final score was HP 33-Lara 26.
Our next matches are just around the corner - Wednesday 29th May – Narre Warren vs HP at Casey Crusaders Grounds in Clyde followed by Wednesday 5th June at Fountain Gate Secondary College, Fountain Gate vs HP. The team and coaches are busy with lunchtime trainings on Monday and Friday, working through game strategies and skills. As both games are local to the HP Community we are excited and encourage our parents, students and staff to attend the upcoming games to support the team.
As we celebrate the achievements of our rugby teams, it's essential to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals whose dedication and tireless efforts often go unnoticed behind the scenes. Erin Louden, Shahan Illangakoon and Phil Hazlett, their leadership, mentorship, and sportsmanship, shaping not only skilled athletes but also nurturing character and resilience in every player. Their commitment goes far beyond the sidelines, investing countless hours into strategizing, training, and instilling values that extend well beyond the rugby pitch.

Staff Vs Students
Cake Decorating!
On May 9th, the year 12 students took on the staff in the cake decorating challenge, which was a huge hit last year, so we knew it would be again. The four themes were ‘Jungle fever’, ‘Tech wiz’, ‘Mad scientist’ and ‘Game on’, and each team, was given a theme, in which all they had to do was decorate the cake using their given theme better than their opposition. Doesn’t sound so hard, does it? Well, it proved to be quite an exciting challenge!
This challenge showcased how creative each team was, and it was thrilling, as staff and students rushed to decorate their cakes, with dozens crowded around cheering them on! Everybody, fought hard to have the best cake, but in the end the only opinion that mattered was those of the judges…
It was a very close competition, with scores being 2 to the teachers and 1 to the students. The staff had won ‘jungle fever’ and ‘tech wiz’, but students managed to come back, and win ‘game on’, with that cake achieving the highest score altogether of 9.5/10! It all came down to the last theme, ‘mad scientists. It was very close, but the teachers managed to pull away with a score of 8.5/10, narrowly pipping the students at the finish line on 8/10. Meaning, in the end, it was the staff who won this competition 3 to 1! All the cakes looked amazing, but bad luck to the year 12 students who gave it their all. Maybe in the next challenge they might have what it takes to win!

Nintendo, Super smash bros and Mario kart!
On Friday, May 10th, the year 12 students and staff rallied around ready to compete in some fun Nintendo Swich games, Super Smash Bros, and Mario Kart Deluxe. Dozens of year 12s came together to watch their fellow students compete against staff, hoping to final have a win! The Super Smash Bros game had four competitors, however their scores were not recorded as it was only one staff to three students, leaving students with an unfair advantage, so they played for fun, with their friends all cheering them on! Mario Kart, however, was a hit, with everybody crowded around the four competitors, cheering them on as they raced to win! The two staff took on the two students, in a close competition. Everybody was so excited, jumping up and down cheering their team on. However, in the end, it was the students who finally pulled away with the staff vs students win, winning majority of the races! Well done to the staff and students who participated, and good luck for any future challenges and events!

Languages Week
To celebrate language week at our school, the beautiful Ms Ong created two amazing staff vs student Kahoot’s, which was a huge hit!
The first Kahoot, ‘Food from around the World!’, happened on Monday the 20th. At the start, there were no students participating, but with the help of a few year 12s running around, word spread fast and right before the quiz started, many year 12’s had filled in a spot!
Head-to-head, staff and students worked together in trying to be the fastest (and get the correct answer) in all the questions, and throughout the quiz, it was difficult to say who would win – players and names kept jumbling up in the scoreboard – there was no clear winner.
At the last few questions, teams James and Jaimeet, and Leon and Ms Dawson were continuously switching for first and second place, and it was up to the origination of the Pasteis de nata to see who would turn out victorious.
Luckily, the fastest team to get the correct answer were James and Jaimeet!!!!!
Scoreboard:
- James and Jaimeet
- Leon and Ms Dawson
- Josh and Noah
This meant that not only had the students won the first round out of two for the Staff vs Student Language week events, but it also meant the overall scores were 4-3 (with staff winning).
On Thursday the 23rd, the second Kahoot, ‘What’s that Slang?’ had run, and this time, many more participants, from both sides, had come to both participate and cheer each other on!
This event meant the staff and students would either turn out in a tie or the staff will be ahead by two wins.
From determination to exaggeration (from Zyon and Levy (who came last)) the students started out strong, but as more slangs came their way. It was clear that their young minds could not comprehend the old sayings these adults have used in their past times.
And unfortunately, less than halfway in the quiz, the staff overtook more than just the leaderboard and became victorious ‘till the end!
Scoreboard:
- Ms Windross
- Ms Naidoo
- Ms Dawson
Now, the overall scores lie at 5-3 with staff ahead.
