Frequently Asked Questions

Please find below the responses to some frequently asked questions from parents and families:

Why is the back gate opened at 8:30am?

The back gate is opened at 8:30am each school day.  At this time, we have two teachers supervising the back gate to ensure the safety of all students.  Back gate supervision is from 8:30am - 8:50am each school day. We are unable to open the back gate before 8:30am as there is no teacher supervision at this time.

There is no supervision of students by SJV staff before 8:30. Camp Australia operates Before School Care from 6:30am.

Can Foundation students be dropped off through the 'Kiss & Drop' at the back gate?

All students are able to be dropped off through the Kiss & Drop at the back gate once they are confident and capable of walking to their classroom without the assistance of a parent or guardian.  If parents are choosing to drop their children off through St Johns Way Kiss & Drop at the back gate, they are reminded to remain in their car and for the children to exit the vehicle from the passenger side.

Can we have a Keep Clear sign on Police Road outside the parish car park exit?

The traffic management of  Police Road and the creation of Keep Clear zones is managed by Greater Dandenong Council and Vic Roads.  A request for a Keep Clear zone outside the parish council car park was denied by Greater Dandenong Council in recent years due to the proximity of another Keep Clear zone on Police Road adjacent to the KFC.

Can my child meet me at my car in the Parish Carpark at the end of the school day?

Parents or guardians picking up their child/children at the end of the school day from the parish car park, are required to park their car in a parking spot and meet their child at the gate or inside the school grounds.  Each afternoon there will be at least two staff members supervising the collection of students from the front gate and one staff member supervising families crossing the car park exit.  It is unsafe for students to walk through the busy car park at the end of the day to meet their parents/guardians in their cars.  Staff will remain on duty until 3:30pm at which time any uncollected students will be supervised in the school office.

Can SJV use one consistent number when sending out SMS correspondence?

Each time you receive an SMS from St. John Vianney’s Primary School the first three letters will always be SJV.  Unfortunately we are unable to use a consistent number when sending out bulk SMS messages as they are one-way messages sent out to a large contact list via a messaging service. The cost of schools to use their own unique bulk message service number is not a viable option.
