Building Update

Stage 3 of our capital works project is really taking shape now. The administration spaces, sick bay, cafeteria, server room and meeting spaces have all been constructed and the building wrapped. Windows are being fitted this week and then sheeting will begin next week, along with some of the external brickwork. The build is still on schedule for completion by the end of July, which is very exciting!

The photos below provide an update for those of you who may not have seen the recent progress. I have also included photos of the new synthetic grassed area next to the basketball court. This has provided a much nicer space for students to relax in during their breaks and replaces the dirt/mud that was present, due to the heavy foot traffic.

Open Night Success

On Wednesday 1st May, our school hosted an Open Night for interested families of current Year 6 students who are considering enrolment for Year 7 in 2025. We were pleased that so many families from many local primary schools took the time to visit and learn more about the great learning environment we provide for our students at Merbein P-10 College.

I would like to thank staff for supporting the night’s activity and the many students who helped in the classrooms, presented or performed at the official presentation in the gym, or acted as hosts and guides.

Finally, I would like to thank parents and families who took the time to visit and find out more about our great school.

Staff Currently On Leave & New Staff

We currently have a number of staff on leave, but we have been able to cover these classes with internal arrangements. However, this may mean your child has some changes to their class teacher over the coming weeks, as CRTs assist us with this coverage.

Mr Chris Blackie – Returning in the final week of Term 2

Mr Josh Lee – Returning 27th May.

Mrs Tamra Lee - Returning 27th May.

Mr Brad Hill – will be on leave for the remainder of 2024 following the birth of his second child.

Mr Peter Arney – Returning at the beginning of Term three.

Mrs Hannah Brown (Schofield) - Returning at the beginning of Term three.

Mrs Claire Alexander (Collihole) - Returning in Term four.

We are very excited to welcome three new staff members to the college. Vinh Phu (Maths/Science) joined us at the start of Term 2, Brad Carey (Student Wellbeing) will join our team on the 27th May & Annie Evans (Business Manager) will be joining our administration team in June.

Student Attitude To School Surveys

These surveys are completed annually by all students from Year 4-10 in schools throughout Victoria.  The results are tabulated and then compared with results from all the other schools in the state.

The 2024 surveys will be completed across our Year 4-6 and 7-10 over the coming weeks.

The surveys take approximately half an hour to complete and provide valuable information about how our students feel about their school, their learning and their connection with their peers.

Participation in the survey is voluntary. If you do not wish for your child to do the survey, please opt out via email to the school before the survey commences. An information sheet with all the details regarding the survey and the options for participation will be added to Compass today for all families to access.
