Get involved in the Maths Challenge! 

Numeracy is the language, skill and disposition needed 

to be successful in mathematical processes. 

It's the ability to understand and use maths in daily life, at home, work or school. 

I would like to encourage Viewbank families to engage in conversations that involve numeracy processes, problem solving and using maths in everyday life.

I will send out a family challenge in every newsletter and look forward to students/families to send me their solutions (thinking process and working out) the week after. 

The best explained solutions would be published in the next newsletter.

Challenge 1:  3rd May 2024 

Explain your thinking, show your working and conversation you have had to convince each other to prove your solution is the correct one.

Would you rather work seven days at $20 per day or be paid $2 for the first day and have your salary doubled every day for a week? 

Extension: If the payment methods described in the “Challenge” were carried out for a month, how much money would you have earned altogether by the 30th day?
