From Student to Staff

The College has been around for 46 years this year, and over this time it has changed, expanded and built up a community in which you are all involved in today. A number of our past students have since become valued staff members here at the College.

Below are the reflections of Miss Lydia Lim, who is now a Primary Teacher at Wantirna South Campus.

What years did you attend the College?

2011 to 2012

What is your fondest memory of your years of being a student?

Being involved in the school musical, ‘The Sound of Music’.

What are some of the main differences about the College now compared to when you attended?

The college has expanded into two campuses now. The Wantirna South campus, where I was a student, has more buildings, rooms, and facilities.

What has never changed?

The Wantirna South campus library and performing arts centre.

How long have you been with the College and what is your role?

Last year, I was a casual relief teacher at the Wantirna South campus and this year I started as a Primary Music teacher.

What do you love most about your role/the WCC community?

Being able to work and teach in a God-loving and friendly community.

Any final thoughts/reflections on your time at WCC over the years?

My time as a student at Waverley Christian College has shaped me to be who I am today. I feel blessed to be able to give back to the school by being a teacher.

Below are the reflections of Mr Daniel Woolfe, who is now a Secondary Teacher at Wantirna South Campus.

What years did you attend the College?

I attended the College from 2003 (Year 7) until 2008 (Year 12).

What is your fondest memory of your years of being a student?

My fondest memory is from when the teachers did a spoof of the VCE text, ‘Gattaca’. It was scripted by the students and performed by the teachers! They called it ‘Sac-aca’, and the plot followed the hunt for a missing sausage at a sausage sizzle fundraiser, among the SAC assessments that students were doing. It was both hilarious and a little embarrassing for my family!

What are some of the main differences about the College now compared to when you attended?

The College has changed in its size, the number of programs offered and there are so many areas! The buildings have expanded a lot - During my time as a student, the Art Tech wing was constructed and opened, the Gym, the West Wing, also all completed! Now, we have so many more buildings and areas, which is awesome, and means we can run more activities and programs. We have been really blessed.

What has never changed?

There is always construction happening at WCC 😉. Also, a similar thing that I cherish is caring teachers who look after the interests of their students.

How long have you been with the College and what is your role?

I worked at the Narre Warren South Campus for 4 years previously, and now I have worked at Wantirna South campus for a year and a half. My role is Secondary Design Technology: Wood and Composites teacher and Biblical Studies teacher, as well as Assistant Year 8 Co-Ordinator.

What do you love most about your role/the WCC community?

I love most the freedom to talk about Jesus with my students, to pray together, and to have honest and open conversations about faith. This is a privilege we should never take for granted.

Any final thoughts/reflections on your time at WCC over the years?

My final reflections would be advice for our students for when they leave WCC – find a church outreach ministry or Christian group at university to be connected with. It’s not just about you – it’s about learning to serve Jesus in the wider world as well, and it will help you grow as a Christian and flourish in the years after you graduate. We want you to love and trust Jesus and keep growing in Him.
