2024 Australian Age Swimming Championships

The recent Australian Age Swimming Championships held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre witnessed a spectacular showcase of talent from young swimmers across the nation. Among them, our very own athletes, Ema Costello, Mackenzie Neilsen, Keira Coscarella, Meghan Guthrie-Quinn, and Hana Costello made waves with their performances. The pool deck buzzed with excitement as heat swims unfolded beneath the vast blue skies, leading up to thrilling finals each night.

For some the Australian Age Swimming Championships served as more than a competition; it represented a chance to qualify for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships. Our swimmers pushed for personal bests, eyeing coveted spots on the roster.

For Poppy Stephen, a 2023 Old Collegian, moved into 8th all-time for 17-year-olds in the girls 200 Fly clocking an impressive and swift 2:10.57. Poppy’s stellar performance secured her a coveted place on the Australian team, set to compete at the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Canberra later this year.

Andrews Cup

On Monday 22 April the Andrews Cup Touch Football and Tennis competitions were held after weeks of preparation and training. Despite the threat of rain, both events proceeded with minimal interruptions.

Tennis

At the Andrews Cup Tennis competition, our players took to the court, greeted by a mix of rain and sunshine. Despite the weather, they found their rhythm, with C Grade and D Grade finishing in 4th place. The Year 4 team showed great spirit, placing 11th after a challenging day. Meanwhile, our social league players enjoyed a day of skill development and fun at SomerFields.

Touch Football

In a long-awaited showdown, the Andrews Cup Touch Football teams hit the fields at Redlands Touch Association following a rescheduling prompted by inclement weather. The delay only seemed to heighten the anticipation, as spectators eagerly awaited the display of skill, teamwork, and grit. Our players did not disappoint, putting forth impressive performances that reflected their commitment to training. Special commendations are in order for the A Grade players, who secured a commendable 6th place, and the C Grade team, finishing in a respectable tie for 9th.

Looking Ahead

Over the upcoming weeks, our dedicated Primary Students from Years 2 to 6, who have been putting in the kilometres at training, will be participating in the Andrews Cup and Britton Shield Cross Country events.

Andrews Cup Cross Country contenders are gearing up for their much-anticipated yearly event in Toowoomba. With the final stages of preparation underway, the buzz around the oval is palpable.
