Stage 1

A message from Stage 1

Welcome back, Stage 1! We trust you had a rejuvenating and enjoyable break.

At BVPS, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, and happy. Through initiatives such as PAX The Good Behaviour Game, the Berry Street Education Model, and PDH units of work, we strive to create inclusive and supportive environments where positive interactions thrive and student voices are heard. Your child's wellbeing is our top priority, and we want to assure you that we are here to support them every step of the way. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your child's experience, please do not hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher via email or by phoning the office to schedule an appointment.

We are noticing an abundance of clothing items left behind in classrooms and throughout the Stage 1 hallway, most of which are without clear identification. To facilitate the swift return of these items, we kindly request that you ensure your child's belongings are clearly labelled, thank you.

English

We are learning to:

  •  make meaning from texts that we read, and use this information in our own writing

We are successful when we:

  • can use our prior knowledge to make meaning from a text
  • understand and use new vocabulary
  • use adjectives to describe nouns in an informative way

Mathematics

We are learning to:

  • combine and separate quantities

We are successful when we can:

  • recognise and use the symbols for plus (+), minus (–) and equals (=)
  • understand that adding to numbers makes them bigger
  • understand that subtracting from numbers makes them smaller

Integrated Studies

We are learning to:

  • describe the features of places in our local community

We are successful when we can:

  • use descriptive language to talk about features of places
  • use craft materials to make a model of something we observed in the community
  • describe how we can make improvements to our models

Upcoming Events

We are excited to announce that our K-2 distance run will be taking place this Friday 10 May. Students will have the chance to participate in the run, while parents and carers are warmly invited to spectate or run with the students. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
