STEM
With Term Two more than halfway over I can't believe the amount of ground we have covered already - we are not even halfway through the year!
The 1/2s have had lots of fun participating in the SAKG program this term and we have been carrying out the gardening aspect in STEM, getting very technical about the parts of a plant and how photosynthesis works.
The other grades have finished off our dive into space and the moon and have started looking at zoological science, starting with the classification of animals then learning more about adaptations to their habitats. As this term winds down, we will be finishing it off with a more design-based focus, rather than the science we have been doing in the earlier part of the year.
Our school has been lucky enough to be chosen to participate in the 'Kids in Space' program run by Makers Empire. Kids in Space is a sponsored space education program for each state and territory that offers industry links and real-world learning opportunities. It is designed to encourage younger students to engage with the nation’s growing space ecosystem, introduce them to space technology and different jobs within the space industry and spark their interest in a space career. As a result of this, Wiley and I attended professional development in Ballarat last week and we were introduced to the Makers Empire app which allows us to design objects to be printed using a 3D printer. With this program our school has also received our own 3D printer and later this term, the 3/4 classes will be participating in some challenges to design and create. We are very excited about what we will be able to do with our printer and look forward to rolling it out further through the school.
