100 Days of Prep!!
The Prep students had a fantastic time on their 100th day of learning. Preps spent the day filled with lots of fun activities and crafts to celebrate their 100 days of school. This included decorating their own cupcake, creating a 100 day crown and completing a self-portrait of themselves at 100 years old. Students enjoyed showing off their outfits all day long.
We are very proud of our Prep students and are excited to see how much they learn and grow over their next 100 days of school.
Here are some photos of our celebration day!
What's Happening in STEM this term
Foundation
In Term 3, the Foundation students will have the opportunity to learn about coding by following and representing a sequence of steps and decisions needed to solve simple problems. They will also learn how to debug (identify and fix) errors in an algorithm or program.
Year 1
In Term 3, the Year one students will have the opportunity to develop sequential algorithms to move objects from one place to another using coding blocks. They will learn to use loops to more easily communicate instructions by looking at the repeated patterns.
Year 2
In Term 3, the Year two students will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of algorithms and debugging. They will encounter pre-written code that contains mistakes. Students will need to step through the existing code to identify errors.
Year 3
In Term 3, the Year three students will have the opportunity to practise their sequencing and debugging skills in maze puzzles. They will also get to practise reading and editing code to fix puzzles with simple algorithms, loops and nested loops.
Year 4
In Term 3, the Year four students will have the opportunity to create and animate sprites and make them interactive using events. They will write programs and learn about the two concepts at the heart of Sprite Lab: sprites and behaviours.
Year 5
In Term 3, the Year five students will have the opportunity to learn about coding using a program named Scratch. This program will enable students to develop computer-programming skills using sequences, loops, events, conditionals, functions and variables to create a story, animation or game.
Year 6
In Term 3, the Year six students will have the opportunity to work through a series of programming levels on the computer, finishing with an open-ended “free play” task where they can build whatever they like. They will write programs and learn about the two concepts at the heart of Sprite Lab: sprites and behaviours.
What's Happening in Art this term
Prep
In Term 3, Prep students will paint using basic painting strokes, including lines and circles. They will create various paintings showcasing their skills. Students will practise cutting and placing pieces of paper to form a specific picture from children’s stories.
Year 1
This term in Year 1, the students will focus on thinking creatively to create different artworks by using a variety of materials. The students will start off the term by creating an artwork influenced by the Book Week book Gymnastica. The students will experiment with water colour paint to create a colourful ribbon then they will use texta to colour in the main character’s picture. Later on, the students will show their knowledge of secondary colours by using two primary colours to create a secondary colour of their choice. The students will practise using different brush strokes to create different effects in their artworks.
Year 2
This term in Year 2 students will focus on creative brainstorming, where generating original ideas for drawings and sketches kick-starts the creative process inspired by this year’s book week books. This is followed by the skill of detailed drawing execution, where these ideas come to life with a focus on precise shapes and thoughtful composition.
Year 3
This term Year 3 students create their own collages inspired by the works of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, particularly his imaginative portraits made from objects like fruits, vegetables, and other items. They are learning to draw by observing real-life subjects, such as still life setups and nature scenes.
Year 4
This term in Year 4 , The students will focus on skills that will enhance the quality of their artwork and encourage them to think creatively. The students will start off the terms by creating artworks influenced by the Book Week book BowerBird Blues. The students will use different shades of blue paper to create a tree for their background then they will draw a bowerbird and colour it using water colour paint. Later on the students will focus on layering pastels to create smooth transitions and vibrant effects in their artworks.
Year 5
In Term 3, Year 5 Students will use fine brushes, focusing on precision and control to paint detailed patterns, inspired by Ancient Chinese symbols. They will also learn some fundamental clay modelling techniques, such as pinching and smoothing to create simple clay sculptures.
Year 6
In Term 3, Year 6 students will use images from various Australian native birds, focusing on their unique features, colours and habitats to create detailed paintings using fine brushes. They will use a range of painting techniques to capture their characteristics and natural environment.
What's Happening in Japanese this term
Prep & Year 1
In Term 3, Prep and Year 1 students will continue to practise reciting common Japanese greetings. They will build on their knowledge of colours and numbers, in spoken and written form in Japanese (Romaji - Japanese words/sounds written using English letters). Students will be introduced to new vocabulary, including Japanese words for familiar animals and common pets. They will learn how to count to 10 and will begin to recognise the Kanji symbols for these numbers. Students will consolidate their learning through songs and games that incorporate all of these topics.
Year 2
In Term 3, Year 2 students will continue to revise colours and greetings in Japanese. They will be introduced to new vocabulary including the Japanese words for familiar animals and common pets. Students will learn how to count to 10 in Japanese and will experiment with writing the corresponding Kanji number symbols. They will consolidate their learning through songs and games that incorporate all of these topics. Students will explore information and interesting facts about Japan, including topics like geography, religion, traditional sports and culture. They will create an information poster about Japan.
Years 3 & 4
In Term 3, Year 3 and 4 students will become familiar with the sound systems of the Japanese language and will begin to experiment with writing Hiragana characters. Students will learn how to count to 10 in Japanese and will begin to write the corresponding Kanji number symbols. They will consolidate their learning through songs and games that incorporate all of these topics. Students will explore information and interesting facts about Japan, including topics like geography, religion, traditional sports and culture. They will begin to create an information poster about Japan.
Years 5 & 6
In Term 3, Year 5 and 6 students will continue to identify and write the first 20 letters of the Hiragana alphabet. They will experiment with reading and writing simple Japanese words using these familiar letters. Students will revise Kanji numbers 1-10 and will learn how to count up to 100 in Japanese. They will also learn new vocabulary for classroom objects. Students will be introduced to common phrases used for etiquette/manners, for example, saying please, thank-you and excuse me in Japanese. They will consolidate their learning through songs and games that incorporate all of these topics.
