College Sport

Nikki Stuart

Welcome back to Sport for Term 3.

This term the College will field three Secondary and three Primary Basketball teams, Hockey teams in the Secondary Division 3 (7/8) and Year 3/4 (Super Sixes) rosters, and a 9/10 Australia Rules Football team.

The Secondary swimming trials are being held tomorrow evening and the team will commence training next week in preparation for their two carnivals late in the term.

The Mount Carmel Primary Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 13 September.

Good luck to everyone representing the College in sport this term.

Secondary Basketball

The Secondary teams commenced their rosters this week with both Year 7 and 8 teams hitting the courts on Monday. There was plenty of nerves, particularly from students new to the sport. It was pleasing to see so much encouragement from each other and team spirit.

The Year 7 team had an exciting match against Fahan in their first game, with Mount Carmel coming out with a 33 - 28 victory.

In the Year 8 Division 2 competition, the team had a tough first up match against Friends’ Grey. They had a few players missing, but fought hard with some tired legs right to the end, eventually being defeated 44 -22.

The Year 10 team’s first game is next Wednesday.

We are all looking forward to a fantastic season of basketball.

Primary Basketball

JSSATIS Basketball commences this afternoon, with the College represented by a team from Years 3 and 4, a Year 5 and a Year 6 team.  Uniforms were received this week with much excitement!

Thanks to Year 9 students Antonette Conrades and Stella Cranefield who will coach the Year 3 and 4 students, Year 7 student Freya Nally who will take the Year 5 team for training, and Year 10 student Esther Dance who is coaching the Year 6 team throughout this term.  Thanks also to Stella Cranefield who will referee some games.

We hope the players enjoy the season, regardless of whether they are experienced or just trying basketball for the first time.

The 5-week program sees participants involved in a variety of movement and hand-eye coordination drills which are essential to progressing their overall tennis ability. By the end of the 5 weeks players should all have a basic understanding of groundstrokes, serves and scoring.

Duration: 45 mins

When: 7.45am – 8.30am Thursday morning

Where: Mount Carmel Tennis Courts
