Around the Primary Classes

ELC

We are growing! We welcome Matilda, Alisha, Enya, Maia, Adelie and Minh who have recently joined our ELC.

Continuing on with our Winter and Arctic animals theme, last week the children tried making igloos out of ice blocks…..but the ice blocks were ‘too slippery’ and ‘wouldn’t stay still’. We soon discovered that by dipping the ice blocks into salt, this allowed them to stick together. Matilda made an igloo for a polar bear.

Like the seven dwarves, and armed with full watering cans, we watered very thirsty newly planted plants in the College garden.

Kinder

Kinder have been to their first KinderGym excursion, for this term.

We perfected our balancing on the balance beams, our trampoline jumps are reaching new heights and we are expert forward rollers!

We are future Olympic Gymnasts in the making!  Watch out 2040 Olympics!

Prep

The Prep students have had an exciting start to Term 3.

We are busy preparing a special celebration to mark 100 days of school this Friday.

We had a lovely afternoon at Nature Play at Lambert Park.

We have welcomed our new class pets, Snowy and Heart, the hermit crabs.

We have used our sense of sight to draw a careful portrait of one of our Prep friends.

Year 1

Term 3 is off to a busy start for Year 1. We have been learning about The Olympics, practicing our 1 and 2 times tables, working on our reading fluency and welcoming a new class mate into the fold. This week sees the beginning of Nature Play, our unit on Habitats and more time celebrating the Olympic games.

Year 2

Year 2 have settled back into school well and are excited for the activities and learning opportunities this term brings.

Already we have learnt a new skill in Mathematics which helps us add 2 and 3 digit numbers together. We are excited to practise more in the next few weeks.  We have begun an art project on bees, using lots of different mediums and techniques.  We are excited to see what our final art pieces look like.  In English we have learnt new rules to help us with spelling.  We now know when to use a C or K for the sound 'c.'  We have begun our artwork which will be on display at the Arts Festival later in the term and we are learning how to write a narrative with a sizzling start to hook the reader in.

All this, and we have only been back a week and a half!

Year 3

Our Year 3 students have hit the ground running this term! We’ve dived straight into several exciting new units of inquiry.

Firstly, we’re embarking on a poetic journey through the Australian literary landscape. Our unit will see us exploring a range of poetic devices as we delve into the world of verse. We’ve kicked off with C.J. Dennis’ classic, ‘The Ant Explorer’, and are already discovering the magic of language.

Secondly, our science investigations have begun with a fascinating exploration of our planet’s resources. As ‘Dirt Detectives’, we’re uncovering the secrets hidden within rocks, minerals, and soils. The children have already learned about the difference between man-made and natural resources, and we’re excited to see where our investigations take us next!

Additionally, our Religious Education unit, ‘Jesus: Our Friend, Teacher, and Saviour’, has seen us explore the life and teachings of Jesus. So far, we’ve discovered how Jesus positively influenced those around him and continues to inspire us today.

Watch this space for more updates on our exciting learning adventures!

Year 5

Year 5 have been embracing the Olympic Spirit and using it for inspiration across the Curriculum. We have tracked medals, raced into school to enter the daily quiz and used the highs and lows of the games, as inspiration to write.

They are also beginning an integrated unit called  ‘Life in the Freezer’ which will take them to the Antarctic Festival and the TMAG exhibition, Islands to Ice’ in the coming weeks. Good things are certainly happening for Year 5, this term.

Year 6

Exciting news!

Year 6 have officially commenced the learning countdown to their much-anticipated Canberra Trip. They have ben learning about life in the Australasian colonies, especially Tasmania, 140 years ago in the lead-up to Federation. They have also been considering the important role the women's suffrage movement played in shaping the Australia we know today. Through this topic, they have been building vocabulary and speech fluency, as well as learning how to construct complex sentences.

They are excited to continue learning more about how Australia became a nation and building their skills to be able to communicate their new knowledge to the waiting world. Watch this space!
